Balancing nutrient supply and nutrient requirements in grazing sheep
Small Ruminant Research, 2010Abstract Attempting to achieve a balance between the supply of and requirements for the major nutrients implies that demands for major nutrients can be adequately quantified, that the nutritive value of the consumed diet can be described in similar terms and that the diet actually consumed by the grazing sheep can be estimated, or at least predicted,

Requirement for glucose during in vitro culture of sheep preimplantation embryos
Molecular Reproduction and Development, 1992AbstractGlucose utilization by sheep embryos was examined in 8‐cell (N = 36) and blastocyst (N = 36) stages, by measuring conversion of [5−3H]glucose to 3H2O. Fifty percent glucose utilization occurred at 0.79 ± 0.69 mM for 8‐cell embryos and ∼0.06 ± 0.15 mM for blastocysts.

Evaluation of feeding requirements of dairy sheep
2005The special issue refers to the following topics:-milk composition as a tool to perform correctly the feeding requirement of dairy sheep;-a critical review of main systems for the evaluation of nutritive requirements and a proposal of new approaches;-review of main aspects affecting feed intake in sheep;-an examination of the lipid nutrition and of the

Some observations on phosphorus homoeostasis and requirements of sheep
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1984SummaryThe results of phosphorus kinetic studies from 149 sheep used in previous studies of calcium and P metabolism have been analysed statistically, to provide information on the mechanism of control of P homoeostasis.Whereas the rate of absorption of dietary P was increased in direct relation to P intake, the efficiency of absorption was decreased ...

Estimating the metabolizable energy requirement for pregnancy in sheep
Animal Science, 1997AbstractA model is developed in which the metabolizable energy (ME) requirement for growth and maintenance of the foetus, uterus and udder are described explicitly for sheep. The efficiency of the use of ME for the growth of the products of conception (kp) is assumed to be the same as that for growth in non-pregnant animals.
