Determination of nutritional requirements of growing hair sheep
Small Ruminant Research, 1991Abstract Data from five experiments with growing Pelibuey sheep in a tropical environment were used to study some factors affecting dry matter intake (DMI) and to estimate metabolizable energy requirements.

ADRENOCORTICAL STEROID REQUIREMENTS FOR INITIATION OF ACTH‐DEPENDENT HYPERTENSION IN SHEEP
Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1989SUMMARY1. Previous studies demonstrated that the combined infusion of cortisol (F), aldosterone (ALDO), deoxycorticosterone (DOC), corticosterone (B), 11‐deoxycortisol (S), 17α‐hydroxyprogesterone (17αOHP) and 17α, 20α‐dihydroxy‐4‐pregnane‐3‐one (17α20αOHP), at rates equivalent to their production during adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) treatment ...

Estimating the metabolizable energy requirement for pregnancy in sheep
Animal Science, 1997AbstractA model is developed in which the metabolizable energy (ME) requirement for growth and maintenance of the foetus, uterus and udder are described explicitly for sheep. The efficiency of the use of ME for the growth of the products of conception (kp) is assumed to be the same as that for growth in non-pregnant animals.

Requirement for glucose during in vitro culture of sheep preimplantation embryos
Molecular Reproduction and Development, 1992AbstractGlucose utilization by sheep embryos was examined in 8‐cell (N = 36) and blastocyst (N = 36) stages, by measuring conversion of [5−3H]glucose to 3H2O. Fifty percent glucose utilization occurred at 0.79 ± 0.69 mM for 8‐cell embryos and ∼0.06 ± 0.15 mM for blastocysts.

Some observations on phosphorus homoeostasis and requirements of sheep
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1984SummaryThe results of phosphorus kinetic studies from 149 sheep used in previous studies of calcium and P metabolism have been analysed statistically, to provide information on the mechanism of control of P homoeostasis.Whereas the rate of absorption of dietary P was increased in direct relation to P intake, the efficiency of absorption was decreased ...

Structural requirements for steroid inhibition of sheep lymphocyte mitogenesis {ulIn Vitro]
Steroids, 1984The inhibitory effects of different steroids and related compounds on sheep peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) during exposure to the mitogen, phytohemagglutinin (PHA), have been measured by the reduction of [3H]thymidine incorporation into DNA. Dose-response curves showed that a maximum (or near maximum effect) was achieved at a steroid concentration ...

[Space required for sheep during transport].
DTW. Deutsche tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 1997Space required for different body, positions was investigated for sheep of different weight and genetic background in undisturbed housing conditions. Body temperature, as stress indicator, was measured at different intervals during transport. The loading situation caused a distinct increase; a slight increase was measured after unloading.
