Scouring and dag in sheep in Western Australia: the role of parasitic nematodes and nutritional factors in diarrhoea in sheep of post-weaning age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Diarrhoea ("scouring") in sheep increases the risk of faecal soiling of the breech ("dag") that in turn causes significant production losses for sheep producers and increases susceptibility of sheep to breech blowfly strike. The common causes of scouring

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Energy substrate metabolism in skeletal muscle and liver when consuming diets of different energy levels: comparison between Tibetan and Small-tailed Han sheep

open access: yesAnimal, 2021
The energy intake of Tibetan sheep on the harsh Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau (QTP) varies greatly with seasonal forage fluctuations and is often below maintenance requirements, especially during the long, cold winter.

Inhibition of IGFBP4 in Granulosa Cells Improves Reproductive Performance and Maintains Fertility With Age via YAP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 is upregulated in granulosa cells of aged ovaries across monkeys, mice, and humans. It inhibits YAP signaling, thereby suppressing cell proliferation and contributing to follicular dysfunction. Deletion of Igfbp4 in granulosa cells enhances ovulatory output, improves hormone profiles, and reproductive performance in aged female mice, suggesting ...

Feeding cassava foliage to sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The potential of cassava foliage (Manihot esculenta Crantz) as a protein-rich feed in sheep production in Vietnam was examined by studying cassava foliage yield, hydrogen cyanide (HCN) content, toxicity and performance of lambs fed the foliage as a ...

Preparation of Hu sheep wool/polyacrylonitrile oxidized fiber flame retardant and sound absorption material

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Textiles, 2022
The breeding scale of Hu sheep continues to expand in China. However, due to the low quality of Hu sheep wool and unsuitable for spinning medium and high-grade wool yarn, the purchase price of Hu sheep wool is low and even it is directly discarded.

Gastrointestinal nematode species burdens and host mortality in a feral sheep population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Every few years a large proportion of the feral sheep on Hirta, St Kilda die due to food shortage. The effects of malnutrition are exacerbated by gastrointestinal nematodes. As found in sheep flocks in mainland Britain, Teladorsagia circumcincta has long

Modulation of miR‐23b Wnt/β‐catenin Axis Strengthens Endothelial Barrier Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early blood‐brain barrier (BBB) disruption contributes to stroke and CNS disease pathology. miR‐23b was identified as a regulator of BBB integrity in brain endothelial cells. Inhibition of miR‐23b enhanced barrier‐associated properties, promoted repair‐related signaling, and reduced BBB leakage in experimental stroke models, supporting further ...

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Estimation of average daily gain in fat-tailed sheep at smallholder farms based on energy and protein intake [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
This study aimed to estimate average daily gain (ADG) of Fat-Tailed Sheep based on their energy and protein intake. Data were collected from 68 fat-tailed sheep raised at three smallholder farms in West Java, including feed intake and ADG records.
