Sheet‐Metal Forming and Assembling

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1943
THE modern aeroplane is constructed largely from sheet metal. As such, the most important production problems are those of sheet metal forming, and assembling. Production is here considered as not only the act of forming and assembling the required number of parts, but also the making of forming tools, and all processing of parts such as heat‐treating.

Stress-Based Forming Limits in Sheet Metal Forming

Manufacturing Engineering, 2000
Abstract A strain-based forming limit criterion is widely used throughout the sheet metal forming industry to gauge the stability of the deformed material with respect to the development of a localized neck prior to fracture. This criterion is strictly valid only when the strain path is linear throughout the deformation process. There is

A courseware on sheet metal forming

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1994
Abstract Using hypermedia concepts, an educational software on sheet metal forming has been created to run on an Apple Macintosh computer. The software presents the user with several windows containing texts, equations, colour-illustrations, drawings and animation. The user can navigate between the windows using buttons.

Sheet metal forming: A review

JOM, 1999
Developments in the numerical modeling of stamping processes and experimental measurements now make it possible to design stamping processes using sound engineering principles. This article shows how experimental and theoretical contributions have led to the concept of a forming window in strain space that identifies the strains that can be developed ...

Sheet Metal Forming Processes

2021
In this chapter, a brief outline of various sheet metal forming processes is described, with particular reference to press tool applications. Forming processes such as rolling and tube forming are not dealt here.

Sheet Metal Forming Limits

1978
The maximum strain that the sheet metal can suffer in stretch-forming processes is limited by the phenomena of strain localization and fracture. Both are strictly connected with the stability loss of the workpiece. Different possible modes of instability are discussed in the paper. Also the post-stability stages of the forming process are analyzed.
