When a potential for a scalar field has two local minima there arise spherical shell-type solutions of the classical field equations due to gravitational attraction. We establish such solutions numerically in a space which is asymptotically de Sitter.

Black shells and naked shells [PDF]
In this paper, we study the collapse of a thin dust shell from the point of view of the horizon dynamics. We identify the critical surfaces at which time and space coordinates interchange their roles and investigate their properties by using the formalism of trapped surfaces.

Barotropic thin shells with linear EOS as models of stars and circumstellar shells in general relativity [PDF]
The spherically symmetric thin shells of the barotropic fluids with the linear equation of state are considered within the frameworks of general relativity.

Indentation of ellipsoidal and cylindrical elastic shells [PDF]
Thin shells are found in nature at scales ranging from viruses to hens’ eggs; the stiffness of such shells is essential for their function. We present the results of numerical simulations and theoretical analyses for the indentation of ellipsoidal and ...

On Long-Range Characteristic Length Scales of Shell Structures
Shell structures have a rich family of boundary layers including internal layers. Each layer has its own characteristic length scale, which depends on the thickness of the shell.

Effects of Internal Boundary Layers and Sensitivity on Frequency Response of Shells of Revolution
New applications introduced capsule designs with features that have not been fully analysed in the literature. In this study, thin shells of revolution are used to model drug delivery capsules both with closed and open designs including perforations. The

We define on-shell symmetries and characterize them for Lagrangian systems. The terms appearing in the variation of the Poincaré–Cartan form, which vanish because of field equations, are found to be strongly constrained if the space of solutions has to be preserved.

Quantum shells in a quantum space-time [PDF]
We study the quantum motion of null shells in the quantum space-time of a black hole in loop quantum gravity. We treat the shells as test fields and use an effective dynamics for the propagation equations.

Matter-Robotic Calibration for Bioshotcrete
Construction techniques associated with traditional raw earth architecture are characterised by laborious manual tasks in which each clay mix is deposited in layers over a light formwork, such as with the wattle and daub technique.
