A functional description of CymA, an electron-transfer hub supporting anaerobic respiratory flexibility in Shewanella [PDF]
CymA (tetrahaem cytochrome c) is a member of the NapC/NirT family of quinol dehydrogenases. Essential for the anaerobic respiratory flexibility of shewanellae, CymA transfers electrons from menaquinol to various dedicated systems for the reduction of ...

A new class of living liquid metal composites is introduced, embedding Bacillus subtilis endospores into eutectic gallium–indium (EGaIn). The spores enhance droplet coalescence, strengthen interfacial conductivity, and provide on‐demand electrogenic functionality after germination. The composites exhibit high conductivity, self‐healing, patternability,

Shewanella surugensis sp. nov., Shewanella kaireitica sp. nov. and Shewanella abyssi sp. nov., isolated from deep-sea sediments of Suruga Bay, Japan [PDF]
Six strains representing three novel species were isolated from deep-sea sediment in Suruga Bay, Japan, at a depth of 2406–2409 m. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the isolated strains, c931T, c941T, d943, c952, d954 and c959T, are closely affiliated with members of the genus Shewanella.

Chromosome segregation in Streptococcus pneumoniae depends on RocS, a bitopic protein whose membrane‐anchoring mechanisms were unclear. Using NMR and AFM, this study reveals that the widely conserved RocS anchor binds to membranes via a conserved kink‐helix motif which inserts into lipid nanodomains.
