A comparative study of endogenous and exogenous mediators for bioelectrochemical systems is conducted. Ferricyanide and phenazine‐1‐carboxylic acid are selected as representative compounds, and their electrochemical and physiological impacts on Pseudomonas putida under comparable bioelectrochemical conditions are systematically evaluated.

Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 as cell factory for the production of intracellular tellurium nanorods under aerobic conditions [PDF]
Background: Tellurite (TeO32-) is recognized as a toxic oxyanion to living organisms. However, mainly anaerobic or facultative-anaerobic microorganisms are able to tolerate and convert TeO32- into the less toxic and available form of elemental Tellurium (

A mangrove‐derived electrogenic microbial consortium was successfully acclimated to codegrade ethylbenzene and xylenes in a microbial fuel cell (MFC). Acclimation provided high degradation efficiencies (up to 97%) and improved energy recovery. The MFC reached voltage of 520 mV and power density of 63.4 mW m−2.

The Microbiota of Freshwater Fish and Freshwater Niches Contain Omega-3 Fatty Acid-Producing Shewanella Species [PDF]
ABSTRACT Approximately 30 years ago, it was discovered that free-living bacteria isolated from cold ocean depths could produce polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) (20:5n-3) or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (22:6n-3), two PUFA essential for human health.

Bias in culture-independent assessments of microbial biodiversity in the global ocean [PDF]
On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequencing, the SAR11 clade of marine bacteria has almost universal distribution, being detected as abundant sequences in all marine provinces. Yet SAR11 sequences are rarely detected in fosmid libraries, suggesting that the
