Case Report and Literature Review of Carbapenem Resistant Shewanella Putrefaciens Isolated from Ascitic Fluid [PDF]
Shewanella species are Gram-negative, non-fermentative, oxidase positive, motile bacilli with the major phenotypic characteristic of production of large amounts of hydrogen sulfide.

Skin and Soft Tissue Infections due to Shewanella algae – An Emerging Pathogen [PDF]
Introduction: Shewanella spp. are emerging human pathogens, the predominant species being Shewanella algae. Shewanella skin and soft tissue infections are more commonly seen in immunocompromised patients with a pre-existing cutaneous ulcer and most ...

Characterization of a Long-Lived Alginate Lyase Derived from Shewanella Species YH1 [PDF]
Polysaccharides from seaweeds are widely used in various fields, including the food, biomedical material, cosmetic, and biofuel industries. Alginate, which is a major polysaccharide in brown algae, and the products of its degradation (oligosaccharides) have been used in stabilizers, thickeners, and gelling agents, especially in the food industry ...

Topic: Shewanella species: Case series on a rare emerging pathogen
Introduction: Shewanella is a gram negative marine bacterium of which S. putrefaciens and S. algae are pathogenic in immunocompromised patients and patients with pre-existing chronic ulcers. They can cause a broad range of human infections. Aims and Objectives: To describe four cases of Shewanella infection in susceptible patients.

Identification and analysis of a highly conserved chemotaxis gene cluster inShewanellaspecies [PDF]
A conserved cluster of chemotaxis genes was identified from the genome sequences of fifteen Shewanella species. An in-frame deletion of the cheA-3 gene, which is located in this cluster, was created in S. oneidensis MR-1 and the gene shown to be essential for chemotactic responses to anaerobic electron acceptors.
