A CNN Approach for Simultaneous Spatiotemporal Fault Interpretation
ABSTRACT Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have emerged as one of the most effective tools for image analysis. In this study, we propose a custom‐designed CNN architecture to construct a process control scheme based on image data. The product image is partitioned into equal‐sized grids, each comprising three channels: (i) reference image, (ii ...

A simple approach for monitoring business service time variation. [PDF]
Control charts are effective tools for signal detection in both manufacturing processes and service processes. Much of the data in service industries comes from processes having nonnormal or unknown distributions.

Phase I Multivariate Coefficient of Variation Control Charts for High‐Dimensional Processes
ABSTRACT Multivariate control charts have traditionally focused on monitoring the process mean vector and/or covariance matrix. Recent studies have extended this framework to Phase II monitoring of the multivariate coefficient of variation (MCV); yet very limited work has examined MCV‐based monitoring in Phase I.

Novel combined Shewhart-CUmulative EWMA-SUM mean charts without- and with measurement error
The precision of process monitoring often encounters challenges in determining the exact shift size. Therefore, combined control charts have gained considerable attention because of their excellent speed to detect simultaneously small-to-moderate and ...

ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) brings great potential for manufacturers, but clashes with the established culture due to the unexplainable and opaque nature of the solutions it provides. Having little experience in AI and machine learning (ML), most manufacturing leaders experience barriers implementing AI.

ABSTRACT We consider the problem of sequential (online) estimation of a single change point in a piecewise linear regression model under a Gaussian setup. We demonstrate that certain CUSUM‐type statistics attain the minimax optimal rates for localizing the change point.

Shewhart methodology for modelling financial series : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
Quality management techniques are widely used in industrial applications for monitoring observable process variation. Among them, the scientific notion of Shewhart principles is vital for understating variations in any type of process or service.

When Are Statistical Forecast Gains Economically Relevant? Evidence From Bitcoin Returns
ABSTRACT We study how statistical forecast gains for Bitcoin translate into trading profits. Using real‐time out‐of‐sample forecasts from daily bivariate VARs from October 2021 to February 2024, we show that Bitcoin returns are forecastable and that seven predictive indices yield significant gains in directional accuracy (DA).
