A Functional 2D Carbon Allotrope Combining Nanoporous Graphene and Biphenylene Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a novel nanoporous graphene (NPG) is reported with biphenylene segments via thermal fusion of 12‐armchair porous graphene nanoribbons grown on gold surfaces. Characterization using STM, AFM, and DFT reveals low‐defect semiconducting behaviour and tunable band gaps.

Foam used during EPB tunnelling in saturated sand, parameters determining foam consumption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The amount of foam injected during drilling with an EPB-shield in saturated sand is quite often based on experience and/or empiric relations. A method is presented in to calculate the amount of foam needed to create a muck with limited or no grain stress.

Soil conditioning for EPB shield tunnelling

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering, 2014
The use of conditioning agents that change the mechanical and hydraulic behavior of a cohesionless soil into an impervious and plastic paste is the key point for the correct management of EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) shield tunneling. The design of soil conditioning sets and the choice of the best products to be used require special laboratory tests ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

A Colloidal Quantum Dot Thermistor and Bolometer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces colloidal quantum dot thermistors employing a potential barrier structure to tune the activation energy of transport and hence the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Upon integration with plasmonic absorbers, the CQD‐based bolometer device enables room‐temperature wavelength‐selective photodetection across the mid‐ to ...

The Relation Between Strength of Ground Improvement and P-Wave Velocity when Using the Jumbo-Jet Special Grouting Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Shield construction works are the most popular method employed at the Taiwan Mass Rapid Transit project and underground sewage projects. Joining of the shaft and the tunnel is generally high-risk work because of potential dangers, such as ground collapse
