A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

Shielding effects of body - shields for 3D PET.

open access: yesIgaku butsuri : Nihon Igaku Butsuri Gakkai kikanshi = Japanese journal of medical physics : an official journal of Japan Society of Medical Physics, 2002
We analyzed basic physics characteristics of body-shields which have been considered for screening out radioactivity outside the field of view (OFOV) in positron emission tomography (PET). Phantom experiments were performed with simple rectangular body-shields.

Passive radiation shielding investigations in low earth orbit and in an accelerator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Crews of future exploration missions will be exposed for long time to a unique powerful mix of cosmic radiation. Starting from REMSIM study for ESA, we are focusing on short and long term shielding experiments aboard ISS (ESCHILO, ALTCRISS, SOFOCLE) by ...

Role of Intrinsic Electron Trapping in Negative Charging of Amorphous Alumina

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic electron trapping in amorphous Al2O3 is examined using hybrid‐DFT models spanning a wide density range. Both spontaneous and thermally activated trapping are identified, with pronounced spontaneous localization in dense, partly crystallized structures.

Case Shielding Efficiency, High Frequency Technology [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we have presented the comparison of different electromagnetic (EM) shielding case vent shapes (different shape, but same surface) and estimate EM shielding efficiency for one mode E wave.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Interparticle interaction potential in two-component plasmas

open access: yesPhysical Sciences and Technology, 2015
The purpose of this work is to find a pseudopotential of interparticle interaction of charged particles which takes into account quantum and collective effects for an ideal and weakly non ideal plasma in the framework of linear dielectric response ...
