NPR Reactor shield calculations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
At the request of IPD Personnel, calculations on neutron and gamma attenuation were made for the NPR shield. The calculations were made using a new shielding computer code developed for the IBM 7090. The calculations show the thermal neutron flux, total neutron dose rate, and gamma dose rate distribution through the entire shield assembly.

Portable Low‐Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging in People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aging population of people with HIV (PWH) raises heightened concerns regarding accelerated aging and dementia. Portable, low‐field MRI (LF‐MRI) is an innovative technology that could enhance access and facilitate routine monitoring of PWH.

Pb-free Radiation Shielding Glass Using Coal Fly Ash

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences, 2015
In this work, Pb-free shielding glass samples were prepared by the melt quenching technique using subbituminous fly ash (SFA) composed of xBi2O3 : (60-x)B2O3 : 10Na2O : 30SFA (where x = 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 by wt%). The samples were investigated for

Shielding Performance of Composite Materials Used in Air Vehicles

open access: yesSakarya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Dergisi, 2021
The metal skin at air vehicles provide an important shielding effectiveness against the effects of high amplitude electromagnetic waves. In recent years, the composite materials with the advantages such as being lighter, causing lower fuel consumption ...

High sensitivity of 17O NMR to p-d hybridization in transition metal perovskites: first principles calculations of large anisotropic chemical shielding

open access: yes, 2009
A first principles embedded cluster approach is used to calculate O chemical shielding tensors, sigma, in prototypical transition metal oxide ABO_3 perovskite crystals. Our principal findings are 1) a large anisotropy of sigma between deshielded sigma_x ~

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

BUGJEFF311.BOLIB (JEFF-3.1.1) and BUGENDF70.BOLIB (ENDF/B-VII.0) – Generation Methodology and Preliminary Testing of two ENEA-Bologna Group Cross Section Libraries for LWR Shielding and Pressure Vessel Dosimetry

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
Two broad-group coupled neutron/photon working cross section libraries in FIDO-ANISN format, dedicated to LWR shielding and pressure vessel dosimetry applications, were generated following the methodology recommended by the US ANSI/ANS-6.1.2-1999 (R2009)

Attenuation curves of neutrons from 400 to 550 Mev/u for Ca, Kr, Sn, and U ions in concrete on a graphite target for the design of shielding for the RAON in-flight fragment facility in Korea

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
Rare isotope beam facilities require shielding data in early stage of their design. There is much less shielding data on neutrons from the reactions between heavy ion beams and matter than the data on neutrons produced by protons.

13C NMR reveals no evidence of n-π* interactions in proteins. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
An n = π* interaction between neighboring carbonyl groups has been postulated to stabilize protein structures. Such an interaction would affect the (13)C chemical shielding of the carbonyl groups, whose paramagnetic component is dominated by n = π* and π

Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...
