Direct path from microscopic mechanics to Debye shielding, Landau damping, and wave-particle interaction

open access: yes, 2014
The derivation of Debye shielding and Landau damping from the $N$-body description of plasmas is performed directly by using Newton's second law for the $N$-body system.

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Suppression of HD-cooling in protogalactic gas clouds by Lyman-Werner radiation

open access: yes, 2010
It has been shown that HD molecules can form efficiently in metal-free gas collapsing into massive protogalactic halos at high redshift. The resulting radiative cooling by HD can lower the gas temperature to that of the cosmic microwave background, T_CMB=

Shielding Calculation of JSNS

open access: yeshamon, 2005
Most parts of the 1 MW pulsed spallation neutron source JSNS are regarded as radiation shield in complicated 3-D geometry. We have developed a shielding calculation method with a particle simulation code that is based on the Monte Carlo method. The method enabled us shielding designs for the 3-D shielding structure of JSNS with high accuracy.

Laser Metal Deposition of Aluminum Alloys 7075 and 5083 with the Addition of Volatile Alloying Elements through Powder Blending

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser metal deposition of aluminum alloys EN AW‐7075 and EN AW‐5083, using powder blending to compensate zinc and magnesium evaporation. In situ alloying and ex situ alloying with ZnAl12 and AZ91 preserve near‐standard compositions and improve mechanical properties.

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Preparation of facilities for fundamental research with ultracold neutrons at PNPI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The WWR-M reactor of PNPI offers a unique opportunity to prepare a source for ultracold neutrons (UCN) in an environment of high neutron flux (about 3*10^12 n/cm^2/s) at still acceptable radiation heat release (about 4*10^-3 W/g).
