Lasing in localized modes of a slow light photonic crystal waveguide

open access: yes, 2011
We demonstrate lasing in GaAs photonic crystal waveguides with InAs quantum dots as gain medium. Structural disorder is present due to fabrication imperfection and causes multiple scat- tering of light and localization of light. Lasing modes with varying

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Shift work sleep disorder and associated factors among healthcare professionals working at Jimma University Medical Center, Southwest Ethiopia, 2022: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesBMJ Open
Objectives Shift work sleep disorder is a circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder characterised by insomnia and/or excessive sleepiness associated with a shift work schedule that overlaps with habitual sleep time.

Critical behavior and universality properties of uniaxial ferromagnetic thin films in the presence of random magnetic fields

open access: yes, 2014
Critical phenomena in uniaxial ferromagnetic thin films in the presence of random magnetic fields have been studied within the framework of effective field theory. When the type of the random field distribution is bimodal, the system exhibits tricritical

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Correlated fluctuations in the exciton dynamics and spectroscopy of DNA

open access: yes, 2010
The absorption of ultraviolet light creates excitations in DNA, which subsequently start moving in the helix. Their fate is important for an understanding of photo damage, and is determined by the interplay of electronic couplings between bases and the ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Magnetic penetration-depth measurements of a suppressed superfluid density of superconducting Ca$_{0.5}$Na$_{0.5}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals by proton irradiation

open access: yes, 2012
We report on the dramatic effect of random point defects, produced by proton irradiation, on the superfluid density $\rho_{s}$ in superconducting Ca$_{0.5}$Na$_{0.5}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals.

Evaluation or the relationship between shift work and sleepiness in nurses [PDF]

open access: yesطب کار, 2011
Background: A large number of workers all over the world work in shift work schedules. Shift work and especially night work can disturb normal body rhythm especially sleep-wake cycle.
