Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Verification of mixing properties in two-dimensional shifts of finite type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The degree of mixing is a fundamental property of a dynamical system. General multi-dimensional shifts cannot be systematically determined. This work introduces constructive and systematic methods for verifying the degree of mixing, from topological ...

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Digit frequencies and Bernoulli convolutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work was supported partly by the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) grant number 613.001.022 and partly by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council grant number EP/K029061/1.It is well known that when β is a Pisot number,

Asymptotic and numerical description of the kink/antikink interaction

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2010
We consider a class of semi-linear wave equations with a small parameter and nonlinearities which provide the equations having exact kink-type solutions.

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Characterization for entropy of shifts of finite type on Cayley trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The notion of tree-shifts constitutes an intermediate class in between one-sided shift spaces and multidimensional ones. This paper proposes an algorithm for computing of the entropy of a tree-shift of finite type.

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...
