Coding of substitution dynamical systems as shifts of finite type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We develop a theory that allows us to code dynamical systems induced by primitive substitutions continuously as shifts of finite type in many different ways. The well-known prefix-suffix coding turns out to correspond to one special case.

Topological Entropy for Shifts of Finite Type Over $\mathbb{Z}$ and Trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We study the topological entropy of hom tree-shifts and show that, although the topological entropy is not a conjugacy invariant for tree-shifts in general, it remains invariant for hom tree higher block shifts.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Renewal Systems, Sharp-Eyed Snakes, And Shifts Of Finite Type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Johnson and Madden look at collections of bi-infinite strings of symbols that occur in several different areas of mathematics and ask whether these collections are the same in some sense.

An Eight-Zonal Piezoelectric Tube-Type Threaded Ultrasonic Motor Based on Second-Order Bending Mode

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
In order to reduce the driving voltage and gain better output characteristics of piezoelectric actuators, an eight-zonal piezoelectric tube-type threaded ultrasonic motor based on two second-order bending modes was analyzed using the method of finite ...

Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Observer‐Based Adaptive Event‐Triggered Tracking Control for Fuzzy TS Systems With Premise Mismatch

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper presents an adaptive logistic event‐triggered observer‐based tracking controller for Takagi‐Sugeno fuzzy systems under constrained inputs and network delays. Leveraging a hybrid LMI and Secretary Bird Optimization approach, this strategy significantly minimizes communication overhead and computational burden while ensuring optimal reference ...

Class-closing factor codes and constant-class-to-one factor codes from shifts of finite type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Artículo de publicación ISIWe define class-closing factor codes from shifts of finite type and show that they are continuing if their domains are irreducible and their images are of finite type. We establish several relations between class-closing factor

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

One-dimensional projective subdynamics of uniformly mixing Z(d) shifts of finite type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Artículo de publicación ISISin acceso a texto completoWe investigate under which circumstances the projective subdynamics of multidimensional shifts of finite type can be non-sofic.
