Microbial communities and functional diversity in seafood

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Functional diversity encompasses ecosystem processes that enhance adaptability to environmental change. This study explores the diversity of microorganisms associated with seafood. In this paper, we present our knowledge of microbial diversity in relation to seafood.

Transmission and quantification of verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli O157 in dairy cattle and calves

open access: yes, 2009
Data from a field study of 14 months duration in a naturally colonized dairy herd and data from an experiment with calves were used to quantify transmission of verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC O157) in cattle.

Use of Genomics to Investigate Historical Importation of Shiga Toxin–Producing Escherichia coli Serogroup O26 and Nontoxigenic Variants into New Zealand

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2019
Shiga toxin–producing Escherichia coli serogroup O26 is an important public health pathogen. Phylogenetic bacterial lineages in a country can be associated with the level and timing of international imports of live cattle, the main reservoir.

Multimodal targets of (‐)‐α‐thujone mediating avoidance behavior of a stored‐products pest, Tribolium castaneum, in response to irritant stimuli

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We identified four kinds of target molecules against (‐)‐α‐thujone associating avoidance behavior in Tribolium castaneum, indicating multimodality. Abstract BACKGROUND The reciprocal evolutionary processes among phytophagous insects and host plants involve host shift in the herbivorous insects in response to defense chemicals, such as plant‐derived ...

Nanobodies as next‐generation targeting platforms: From discovery technologies to translational biomedicine

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Nanobodies, derived from the variable domains of camelid heavy‐chain‐only antibodies, have emerged as transformative biomedical tools due to their nanoscale size, exceptional stability, and unique capacity to recognize cryptic epitopes. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the field, outlining the structural and biochemical features of ...

SHIGA-TOXIN PRODUCING ESCHERICHIA COLI IN VIETNAM

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Health, 2004
Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli isolated in Vietnam were examined. The 9 isolates included 5 from 400 diarrheal patients and 4 from 42 cows in 2003. No isolate carried eae gene. All human isolates except one and one of four animal isolates carried both stx1 and stx2.

Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli infection in South India [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2009
Infection with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is a recognized cause of diarrhoeal illness, and can be followed by life-threatening complications such as haemorrhagic colitis and/or haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) (Tozzi et al., 2003). The key virulence factors associated with complications are Shiga toxins, Stx1 and Stx2, with variants

Inborn errors of immunity in children with neuroinflammation

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Inborn errors of immunity (IEIs), an expanding group of monogenic disorders with diverse clinical manifestations, are increasingly recognized to include neuroinflammatory disease. Examples of diseases included under this umbrella are Aicardi–Goutières syndrome, deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2, familial haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis ...
