Antibodies against Shigella flexneri adhesion molecule outer membrane protein (OMP) can cross-react with OMPs of some Shigella species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: To identify a Shigella flexneri hemagglutinin outer membrane protein (OMP) as an adhesion factor and examine its ability to cross-react with the OMPs of other Shigella species. Methods: OMP was isolated from the bacterium S.

Intratumoral Microorganisms in Tumors: Current Understanding and Emerging Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Tumors are no longer viewed as sterile but dynamic ecosystems harboring low‐biomass intratumoral microbiota. These microbes, derived from gut, oral cavity, or circulation, shape tumorigenesis and therapy response via core mechanisms: immunomodulation (regulating T cells, macrophages), metabolic reprogramming (SCFAs, indoles, bile acids), chronic ...

Antimicrobial Effect of Spices and Herbs on Shigella sonnei and Shigella flexneri

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2003
Of 17 spices and herbs tested at 1% (wt/vol) in Mueller-Hinton (MH) agar, only cloves, thyme, oregano, allspice, basil, rosemary, and marjoram showed antimicrobial effects on Shigella. The MICs of thyme, oregano, basil, and rosemary (as determined by the agar dilution method) ranged from 0.5 to 1% (wt/vol) depending on the Shigella strain used.

T3SS effector and regulator discovery by predicting interacting partners of T3SS chaperones in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a prominent opportunistic pathogen whose virulence is closely linked to its Type III Secretion System (T3SS), a specialized apparatus that injects effector proteins into host cells. T3SS chaperones are essential for stabilizing, delivering, and regulating T3SS expression.

Determination of Distribution of icsA gene and IcsA Protein Bands between Shigella flexneri Isolated from 3 Hospitals in Tehran [PDF]

open access: yesCell Journal, 2006
Introduction: Shigella is a facultative intracellular pathogen that uses the host actin cytoskeleton protein for intra- and intercellular spread. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of icsA gene and IcsA expressed protein bands among ...

Alternative Approaches and Plant‐Based Remedies for Livestock Health Management Among the Batswana of Southern Africa: A Review

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Due to limited access to, and the high cost of conventional veterinary services, Batswana communities often rely on ethnoveterinary practices for livestock health management. This review provides an in‐depth analysis on the ethnoveterinary uses, biological properties and safety assessment of plants utilised in livestock husbandry. A systematic

Yersinia enterocolitica O:3 Outer Membrane Vesicles as a Platform for Complement Activation

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
Basic characteristics and biological activity of outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) secreted by Yersinia enterocolitica O:3 (YeO3), depending on LPS chemotype and growth temperature. ABSTRACT Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major component of the outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) of Gram‐negative bacteria.
