ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE OF SHIGELLA SONNEI

The Lancet, 1970
Abstract Examination of 1102 representative strains of Shigella sonnei isolated in London in the past two years has shown that 70% of strains are now resistant to three or more antibacterial drugs. Neomycin-resistant strains, though uncommon, are isolated more frequently than in the past.

Immunogenic DNA of Shigella sonnei bacteriophage

Immunochemistry, 1976
Immunogenic and some other properties of Sh, sonnei "Ufa" phage DNA were investigated. This DNA has been shown to possess high immunogenic activity indicating the presence of an unusual base. The base is distinct from 5-OmC, glucosylated 5-OmC, 5-OmU or dihydroxypentyluracil.

Lipopolysaccharides ofShigella sonnei

Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology, 2000
Immunobiological properties of native lipopolysaccharides (LPS) from virulent and avirulent strains of Shigella sonnei bacteria (LPS-V and LPS-A, respectively) were studied. In avirulent bacteria, LPS-V induced immunosuppressive activity specific of the virulent strain. LPS of the avirulent strain, whereas LPS-A lacked this property.

The Antigenicity of Shigella Sonnei

The Journal of Immunology, 1950
Discussion and Summary Some cultures of S. sonnei are remarkably antigenic. Among the strains of this species studied by the authors this great antigenicity has been limited to those of phase I, and all phase I cultures that were examined have shown this property.

LABORATORY INFECTIONS WITH SHIGELLA FLEXNERI 3 AND SHIGELLA SONNEI

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954
Surveys by Sulkin and Pike revealed 31 cases of shigellosis among laboratory workers, but only two of these cases had been reported in the literature. The earliest record of bacillary dysentery contracted in the laboratory may be attributed to Hirschburch and Theim in 1918 (cited by Boyd, 1940). Lippincott published a brief description of an accidental

Shigella sonnei Bacteremia

JAMA, 1962
A 25-year-old septic-system excavator was hospitalized for treatment of severe dysentery. Cultures from blood and feces were positive for Shigella sonnei , an organism not previously reported as invading the blood stream of an adult. The occurrence of specific infection was retrospectively documented by special immunological studies.
