Air-sea interaction in the Arctic Ocean from measurements in the summer-autumn period
One of the main issues of the problem of the air-sea interaction is the description of energy and mass transfer processes. In the most complex form, its processes are presented in the Arctic basin, since the ice cover determines the albedo change, heat ...

GPU-accelerated large-eddy simulation of ship-ice interactions
This paper reports on the applicability of the Lattice Boltzmann based free surface flow solver elbe to the simulation of complex ship-ice interactions in marine engineering. In order to model the dynamics of these colliding rigid multi-body systems, elbe is coupled to the ODE physics engine.

Rhyming in the cold: first evidence of soniferous fishes in the Southern Ocean
The acoustic ecology of Southern Ocean fishes remains unknown due to a lack of dedicated acoustic research on the fishes of this ocean. Passive acoustic monitoring data were collected at the South African sub‐Antarctic Prince Edward Islands using an underwater acoustic recorder, and towed underwater Ski‐Monkey cameras were deployed to identify fish ...

A review of data on abundance, trends in abundance, habitat use and diet of ice-breeding seals in the Southern Ocean [PDF]
The development of models of marine ecosystems in the Southern Ocean is becoming increasingly important as a means of understanding and managing impacts such as exploitation and climate change.

ABSTRACT Identifying the principal drivers of carbon emissions is vital for designing effective mitigation strategies and supporting long‐term environmental sustainability. Although previous studies have explored multiple determinants of emissions, limited attention has been paid to the most influential energy–technology channels within trade‐dependent

Experimental study of ice-elastic plate interaction
ObjectiveTo explore the effect of structural elasticity on the ice-structure interaction process, model tests on the interaction between frozen ice and elastic plates were conducted in a low-temperature laboratory.

Iowa Population Exposures to Metals and Metalloids in Well Water
ABSTRACT Previous Iowa studies suggest low levels and chronic arsenic exposures are associated with prostate cancer. The rural Iowa population heavily relies on private wells for drinking water resources and thus is vulnerable to contaminants such as heavy metals found in well water.

In situ observations in cyclones over Fram Strait
During the international FRAMZY expedition in March 2002 in-situ observations of Fram Strait cyclones were made by aircraft, ship and automatic buoys in order to study the interaction between cyclones and sea ice.
