Governing Within the Constraints of Carbon Budgets: Regional Insights From Sweden
ABSTRACT Staying within the limits of a rapidly shrinking global carbon budget while avoiding dependency on negative emissions technologies and carbon dioxide removal remains a significant challenge in a multi‐level governance system, where resources and responsibilities are dispersed among different actors.

The correlation between the structures of metal complexes immobilized in the mesopores of hydrophobically modified silicate supports was examined in relation to the catalytic activities toward C‐H oxidation. On the alkene oxidation with H2O2, the iron catalyst bearing bis(imidazolyl)methane ligand promotes allylic oxidation, whereas the mononuclear ...

AI‐driven circular economy optimization in waste management: A review of current evidence
Abstract The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in waste management has the potential to significantly advance circular economy objectives by enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing resource recovery. However, realising these benefits depends on addressing significant technical, economic, and systemic ...

The EU's Strategy for Sustainability: A Landmark Turn With the European Green Deal?
ABSTRACT While the European Green Deal (EGD) has been widely recognized as a milestone in the EU's sustainability strategy, scholars disagree on the nature of the policy change it represents. Critics highlight its limited social and environmental ambitions, despite its portrayal as a “man on the moon” moment.

Design of a Hydroelectronic Solar‐Tracking System for Solar Panels
A prototype of a passive solar‐tracking system utilizing buoyant force based on water level was developed, and its MATLAB/Simulink model was implemented. This study is expected to encourage researchers to design solar‐tracking mechanisms using metals with different thermal expansion coefficients, air, oil, and other fluids. ABSTRACT This study presents

(1) A theoretical framework for examining the impact of the CETS on carbon emissions in the LS of the YREB is developed based on Porter's hypothesis and synergy theory. (2) Assessing the Effects of a CETS through DID Modeling. (3) The spatial correlation of carbon emissions within the LS is examined through the development of a SDM.

Deep learning for autonomous ship-oriented small ship detection
Safety Science, 2020Abstract Small ship detection is an important topic in autonomous ship technology and plays an essential role in shipping safety. Since traditional object detection techniques based on the shipborne radar are not qualified for the task of near and small ship detection, deep learning-based image recognition methods based on video surveillance systems ...

Speckle-Free SAR Image Ship Detection
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2021Ship detection is one of important applications for synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Speckle effects usually make SAR image understanding difficult and speckle reduction becomes a necessary pre-processing step for majority SAR applications. This work examines different speckle reduction methods on SAR ship detection performances.

Ship infrared detection/vulnerability [PDF]
The IR contrast of ships at sea is of importance for those who want to detect or identify the ship and for those who worry about this. This IR contrast is determined by a large number of parameters. Of course temperatures of the ship's structure and those of the ambient sea and air are important, but also important are the reflection properties of the ...

Ship wake detection by Raman lidar
Applied Optics, 2010We carried out a remote study of ship wakes by optical methods. Both Mie and Raman scattering signals and their evolution were simultaneously recorded by gated detector (intensified CCD). The Mie scattering signal was detectable within 1 min after water disturbance by a high-speed boat.
