Wireless direction-finding in steel ships
Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1923The problems of direction-finding which are peculiar to ships are discussed. A method of regarding the action of a ship on wireless waves is given, as well as means of correcting for the deviations so produced. The precautions to be observed in the calibration of a ship direction-finder are indicated.

Developing direct shipping across the Taiwan Straits
Marine Policy, 2006Abstract Direct shipping across the Taiwan Straits has been restricted since 1949 for political reasons. Goods for cross-Straits trade must be transshipped via a third place, such as Hong Kong or a Japanese port. Since commercial activities across the Straits have become increasingly prosperous in recent years, the demand for direct shipping across ...

Direct Communication with Radar Identified Shipping
Journal of Navigation, 1964When radar is used at sea as an aid to collision avoidance, the necessary information has to be obtained by maintaining a plot, which, however, can only offer the average course and speed over a passed time. It is not a reliable prediction of future actions, so that to make too long an extrapolation from a plot is hazardous.

Ship Motion Pattern Directed VTOL Letdown Guidance
1983 American Control Conference, 1983This paper examines ship motion pattern directed letdown guidance strategies for landing a VTOL aircraft onboard a small aviation ship under adverse environmental conditions. Off-line computer simulation of the shipboard landing task is utilized for assessing the relative merits of the proposed guidance schemes.

Deriving Directional Wave Spectra from Ship Motions
Offshore Technology Conference Asia, 2018Abstract The ability to derive the directional wave spectra directly from the motions of a floating facility can be of significant value to offshore industry, particularly for sites where reliable observations are not available. This study employs new full-scale measurements of the dynamic motions of an operating drillship to evaluate ...

Medium-frequency direction-finding in H.M. ships
Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers - Part IIIA: Radiocommunication, 1947In Part 1 of the paper the present state of medium-frequency direction-finding in H.M. ships is reviewed. There have been no fundamental changes in the system employed in recent years. The standard method in use is that of a screened crossed-loop aerial with low-capacitance screened feeder cables connected to a radiogoniometer and a receiver, using ...

New directions for research in shipping economics
Maritime Policy & Management, 1980The beginning of the decade of the 80s is characterized everywhere by a slow-down in growth and great uncertainty in world output and trade, as well as insecurity in international monetary affairs. Consequently, there is anxiety about the current state and prospects for shipping.

A multi-objective DIRECT algorithm for ship hull optimization
Computational Optimization and Applications, 2017The paper is concerned with black-box nonlinear constrained multi-objective optimization problems. Our interest is the definition of a multi-objective deterministic partition-based algorithm. The main target of the proposed algorithm is the solution of a real ship hull optimization problem.

Analysis of Direct Shipping Policies in an Inventory-Routing Problem with Discrete Shipping Times
Management Science, 2008We consider the problem in which several products have to be shipped from a supplier to a set of retailers over an infinite time horizon. Each product is made available at the supplier and absorbed by each retailer at given constant production and consumption rates.
