Assessment of Dried Plasma Spots (DPS) as an Appropriate Sample Matrix for the Measurement of Circulating Calretinin, a Biomarker for Mesothelioma—A Proof‐Of‐Concept Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
In this proof‐of‐concept study calretinin as a biomarker for mesothelioma was evaluated using filter cards, i.e., dried plasma spots (DPS) as an alternative sample matrix. After drying, calretinin was reconstituted and determined using ELISA. Calretinin could be reliably determined and the performance of calretinin is slightly improved in comparison to

A Pleading for Ship Manned Models as a “Physical” Simulator in the Ship Handling Training Process

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2014
AbstractAs almost everybody is aware, the seafaring as occupation is still a dangerous way of life. Despite the scientific and technological progresses, the casualties at sea are yet numerous and loss of human life is costly. The causes are pending on various domains such as the increased maritime traffic at often associated higher service speeds, the ...

Decision Threshold Setting in Binary Classification Problems—A Behavioral Lens

open access: yesJournal of Operations Management, Volume 72, Issue 4, Page 536-555, June 2026.
ABSTRACT When binary classification models are wrong, managers face misclassification costs. Although false positive outcomes imply unnecessary mitigation efforts, false negative outcomes imply overlooking the class of interest. Humans calibrate these ai models supporting operational systems by adjusting the decision threshold that translates ...

Black flesh disorder in mango: a chilling injury symptom increased by early harvest and low storage temperature and reduced by 1‐methylcyclopropene

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Black flesh (BF) is an internal disorder in mango, characterized by the development of dark brown to black pigmentation in the inner mesocarp tissue during storage or transport. This study investigated the effects of harvest maturity, low storage or low transport temperatures, and 1‐methylcyclopropene (1‐MCP) on mango fruit ...
