A novel methodology for revision of the nautical bottom [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Since the 1980s, the nautical bottom in the outer harbour of Zeebrugge is determined by the 1150kg.m-3 density level, as due to siltation conventional bottom survey techniques are not adequate.

Can Ship Manoeuvring Be Chaotic?

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract The complex equations of motion of a manoeuvring ship may be reduced to a second order equation in terms of rate of turn, which has a cubic non-linear term. This equation can be normalised into the standard form of a Duffing equation, which is known to exhibit chaotic behaviour for certain ranges of its parameters.

Software platform for manoeuvrability performance estimation in initial ship design

open access: yesAnnals of "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galaţi: Fascicle XI Shipbuilding, 2015
Starting with the initial ship design stage, cost-effectiveness in manoeuvring and course keeping performance is a major objective. In this context, a software platform was developed in the Research Centre of Faculty of Naval Architecture, of “Dunarea de

Simulation study of helicopter ship landing procedures incoporating measured flow data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The aim of this article is to investigate the use of inverse simulation to help identify those regions of a ship's flight deck which provide the safest locations for landing a rotorcraft in various atmospheric conditions.

Manoeuvrability of Ships in Narrow Waterway

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan, 1984
In restricted waters such as harbour, bay or cannal, it is necessary to know the precise manoeuvring characteristics of ship including the effects of water depth, channel bank or the another ships from viewpoint of safety of navigation. In narrow waterways, specially, the effects of channel bank and hydrodynamic interactions between ships are fairly ...

Off-Design Propulsion Power Plant Investigations by Means of Free Running Manoeuvring Ship Model Test and Simulation Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Twin screw vessels\u27 propulsion system experiences strong off design conditions during tight manoeuvres due to the propellers inflow asymmetry arising from the coupled yaw-drift motion.
