Rans predictions of roll viscous damping of ship hull sections

open access: yes, 2011
The unsteady flow around a forced rolling hull section with and without bilge keels is computed using URANS code ReFRESCO. In this paper, extensive studies have been carried out in the dependence on grid resolution and time-step size on the linear roll viscous-damping coefficient.

Use of Tunnel Thrusters and Azimuthing Thrusters for Roll Damping of Ships

open access: yes, 2016
This thesis presents a novel technique of active roll damping in marine vessels by the sole use of conventional thrusters. Many marine operations, such as crane operation and helicopter landings, should be carried out in small and steady roll motions.
