On the Nonlinear Ship Roll Damping Components

1994
Scale model experiments of roll decay in calm water and forced roll in a regular beam sea have been conducted on several ship typologies. A methodology for the estimation of the roll equation parameters, based on nonlinear least squares fitting to the experimental data has been developed and implemented in a computer code.

Nonlinear Ship Rolling: Identification of Damping Model

1991
The problem of the correct formulation of a roll damping model and of an efficient evaluation of the damping coefficients are examined in a critical analysis. It results that, whereas numerical hydrodynamics does not forecast satisfactorily results valid for large amplitude rolling, experiments are more reliable but their analysis also presents some ...

Comprehensive Roll Damping Assessment and Motion Analysis for a Benchmark Container Ship

Gemi ve Deniz Teknolojisi
The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the damping characteristics of the ship’s roll motion. The second goal is to explore the damping effects on the solution of roll motion, considering the ship’s forward speed, wave frequency, and initial roll amplitude.

A RANS Based Method for the Estimation of Ship Roll Damping With Forward Speed

23rd International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, Volume 3, 2004
For the prediction of ship roll motion, viscous effects must be taken into account. Several methods, experimental and theoretical, have previously been used to calculate hydrodynamic forces in roll motion. Theoretical methods applied so far to this problem have been based mainly on potential flow models, which cannot account for viscous effects ...

Gyroscope and activated anti-rolling tank equations in ship roll damping

2017
Each Ship Can Transfer Safely in certain Zone According to Its Stability and Regime of Sea State. Therefore, if Ship Have to Pass in Specific Condition that Sea State is Jumpy, Should be Provide One or More Anti Rolling Methods to Survive. The Purpose of this Article is Reduction and Control of Rolling Motion to Reach Proper Hydrostatic Stability with ...

Study of damping effect of the floodwater on a damaged ship roll motion

2015
Roll decay of a ship in flooded condition was studied experimentally and numerically. Two different flooded compartment layouts were used. Floodwater motions in the compartments were simulated numerically by applying lumped mass with a moving free surface method. Water exchange through the non-watertight bulkheads in compartment was modeled by applying
