New Perylenequinones fromShiraia bambusicola
Planta Medica, 1991Two new perylenequinones, named hypocrellin B and C, together with the known hypocrellin A were isolated from the stromatal tissues of Shiraia bambusicola. The structures of these compounds, including the absolute stereochemistry, were determined.

Effects of microbial elicitor on production of hypocrellin by Shiraia bambusicola
Folia Microbiologica, 2012Some endophyte isolates were isolated in a bamboo pole sample parasitized the fungus Shiraia bambusicola from Zhejiang Province. After screening through hypocrellin bacteriostatic effect and fermentation test, we got the isolate TX4 of bacterial elicitor and GZUIFR-TT1 of fungal elicitor which had certain effect to promote S.

Characterization of a major facilitator superfamily transporter in Shiraia bambusicola
Research in Microbiology, 2017Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by photo-activated hypocrellin from Shiraia bambusicola are detrimental to cellular macromolecules. However, S. bambusicola can still maintain excellent morphology during continuous hypocrellin production, indicating an extraordinary autoresistance system that protects against the harmful ROS.

Lanthanum: A novel inducer for enhancement of fungal laccase production by Shiraia bambusicola
Journal of Rare Earths, 2022Abstract Fungal laccases are industrially important inducible enzymes extensively used in the delignification of lignocellulosics, detoxification of environmental wastes and decolorization of textile dyes. The discovery of new inducers is crucial for laccase productivity by filamentous fungi.

Phylogenetic study on Shiraia bambusicola by rDNA sequence analyses
Journal of Basic Microbiology, 2004AbstractIn this study, 18S rDNA and ITS‐5.8S rDNA regions of four Shiraia bambusicola isolates collected from different species of bamboos were amplified by PCR with universal primer pairs NS1/NS8 and ITS5/ITS4, respectively, and sequenced. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted on three selected datasets of rDNA sequences.

Shiraia bambusicola exhibits an excellent capability to produce high-value pharmacological drugs, such as hypocrellin. However, less effective molecular tools hamper the processes to discover or exploit these metabolites. To address this issue, the more effective CRISPR/Cas9 system was constructed by optimizing the sgRNA transcription elements and ...

Improved hypocrellin A production in Shiraia bambusicola by light-dark shift
Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2018Hypocrellin A (HA) is a major bioactive perylenequinone from the fruiting body of Shiraia bambusicola used for the treatment of skin diseases and developed as a photodynamic therapy (PDT) agent against cancers and viruses. The mycelial culture of S. bambusicola under dark is a biotechnological alternative for HA production but with low yield.

Abstract Hypocrellin production using submerged cultivation of the medicinal fungus Shiraia bambusicola revealed that both glucose and (NH4)2SO4 were optimal carbon and nitrogen sources. Hypocrellin production increased with increasing initial glucose concentration within the range of 10–50 g l−1 and (NH4)2SO4 concentration in the range of 1–2 g l−1.
