Heart Rate Variability Analysis in an Experimental Model of Hemorrhagic Shock and Resuscitation in Pigs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has been shown as a promising non-invasive technique for assessing the cardiac autonomic modulation in trauma.

The Severity of Injury and the Extent of Hemorrhagic Shock Predict the Incidence of Infectious Complications in Trauma Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
: Background: : Trauma patients are at high risk of developing systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and infections. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the severity of injury and the extent of hemorrhagic shock at admission ...

Sengstaken-Blakemore tube as a rescue treatment for hemorrhagic shock secondary to laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding erosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Gastrointestinal bleeding is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening complication of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) erosion. We present the use of a Sengstaken-Blakemore tube as a treatment device for severe gastrointestinal bleeding

Nanocarrier‐Based Targeting of Pattern Recognition Receptors as an Innovative Strategy for Enhancing Sepsis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent progress in nanocarriers targeting pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), including Toll‐like and NOD‐like receptors, for enhancing the treatment of bacterial sepsis and related complications. These nanomedicines deliver antibiotics and anti‐inflammatory agents while modulating immune responses.

Shock volume: Patient-specific cumulative hypoperfusion predicts organ dysfunction in a prospective cohort of multiply injured patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Multiply injured patients are at risk of developing hemorrhagic shock and organ dysfunction. We determined how cumulative hypoperfusion predicted organ dysfunction by integrating serial Shock Index measurements. METHODS: In this study,

Unilateral Ankle‐Foot Exoneuromusculoskeleton with Balance‐Sensing Feedback for Self‐Help Telerehabilitation after Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study introduces a hybrid robot that integrates mechanical assistance by musculoskeletons (i.e., soft pneumatic muscle with rigid exoskeletal extensions), neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and vibrotactile feedback in a lightweight wearable mechatronic complex applicable to the paretic ankle–foot poststroke for gait restoration. The system can

The Effect of Blood Loss in the Presence and Absence of Severe Soft Tissue Injury on Hemodynamic and Metabolic Parameters; an Experimental study

open access: yesEmergency, 2014
Introduction: The effect of severe soft tissue injury on the severity of hemorrhagic shock is still unknown. Therefore, the present study was aimed to determine hemodynamic and metabolic changes in traumatic/hemorrhagic shock in an animal model. Methods:

Transcriptome Analysis Revealed Inflammation Is Involved in the Impairment of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells Induced by Post-hemorrhagic Shock Mesenteric Lymph

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Vascular endothelial injury caused by post-hemorrhagic shock mesenteric lymph (PHSML) return is an important manifestation during refractory hemorrhagic shock.

Pathophysiology of Hemorrhagic Shock

open access: yesJOURNAL OF ACUTE CARE SURGERY, 2016
Hemorrhage is a major cause of death in trauma patients. The medical definition of hemorrhagic shock is tissue hypoperfusion resulting from a reduction of blood volume. Decreased blood pressure resulting from acute blood loss induces cardiac stimulation, systemic vasoconstriction, and volume redistribution.
