Near-full density enabled excellent dynamic mechanical behavior in additively manufactured 316L stainless steels

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Mechanical properties of additively manufactured alloys are momentously affected by the fabrication defects, thus limiting their applications in extreme conditions.

The Lopatinski determinant of small shocks may vanish [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
The Kreiss-Majda Lopatinski determinant encodes a uniform stability property of shock wave solutions to hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in several space variables. This note deals with the Lopatinski determinant for shock waves of sufficiently small amplitude. The determinant is known to be non-zero for so-called extreme shock waves, i.

Synthesis of diamonds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Shock wave transmitted through a solid exponential horn generates heat and pressure to convert part of a charge of graphite to diamonds.

Radio Bursts Associated with Flare and Ejecta in the 13 July 2004 Event

open access: yes, 2008
We investigate coronal transients associated with a GOES M6.7 class flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME) on 13 July 2004. During the rising phase of the flare, a filament eruption, loop expansion, a Moreton wave, and an ejecta were observed.

Self-similar wave breaking in dispersive Korteweg-de Vries hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2018
We discuss the problem of breaking of a nonlinear wave in the process of its propagation into a medium at rest. It is supposed that the profile of the wave is described at the breaking moment by the function $(-x)^{1/n}$ ($x0$, negative pulse) of the ...

Cosmic ray acceleration at relativistic and ultrarelativistic shock waves [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2000
Using the Monte Carlo simulations we apply a method of discrete small amplitude particle momentum scattering to reproduce highly anisotropic conditions at relativistic shocks. We discusse acceleration times scales in relativistic shocks. Next, we describe newly found acceleration mechanism at ultrarelativistic shocks.

Public debate on metallic hydrogen to boost high pressure research

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes, 2017
Instead of praises from colleagues, the claim of observation of metallic hydrogen at 495 GPa by Dias and Silvera met much skepticism, and grew into a public debate at the International Conference on High-Pressure Science and Technology, AIRAPT26.
