On nonlinear superposition of shock waves for the KdV-Burgers equation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Superposition of explicit (analytic) monotone non-increasing shock waves for the KdV-Burgers equation is studied, modelled numerically and graphically presented. Initial profile chosen as a sum of two such shock waves gradually transforms into a single shock wave of a somewhat complex yet predictable structure.

Shock Waves in Polycrystalline Iron

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
The propagation of shock waves through polycrystalline iron is explored by large-scale atomistic simulations. For large enough shock strengths the passage of the wave causes the body-centered-cubic phase to transform into a close-packed phase with most structure being isotropic hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) and, depending on shock strength and grain ...

Enhancing Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) Coatings on Magnesium Alloys: The Critical Role of Surface Pretreatments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review explores how various surface pretreatment methods—such as heat treatment, severe plastic deformation, laser modification, immersion, and cold spray—enhance the performance of PEO coatings on magnesium alloys. The study highlights how these pretreatments influence coating microstructure, adhesion, and corrosion resistance, offering new ...

Cosmology, Black Holes and Shock Waves Beyond the Hubble Length

open access: yes, 2003
We construct exact, entropy satisfying shock wave solutions of the Einstein equations for a perfect fluid which extend the Oppeheimer-Snyder (OS) model to the case of non-zero pressure, {\it inside the Black Hole}.

Low‐Noise, Unbiased Ferromagnetic‐Resonance‐Driven Thin‐Film Integrated Giant Magnetoimpedance Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Utilizing a novel (Ni81Fe19/Ti)4/Cu/(Ni81Fe19/Ti)4 thin‐film multilayer with low coercive field, low damping and a superior GMI ratio, a compact, low‐noise unbiased FMR‐driven integrated GMI sensor with a superior magnetic noise performance of ≈100 pT/√Hz is first demonstrated, owing to reduced phase noise from well‐defined aligned magnetic domains and

Research of detonation products of RDX/Al from the perspective of composition

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2023
Aluminized explosives exhibit excellent performance because the oxidation of aluminum (Al) powders enhances the pressure and temperature of detonation products. However, the equation of state (EOS) of detonation products has not been understood well.

Exposure of zebra mussels to extracorporeal shock waves demonstrates formation of new mineralized tissue inside and outside the focus zone

open access: yesBiology Open, 2018
The success rate of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) for fracture nonunions in human medicine (i.e. radiographic union at 6 months after ESWT) is only approximately 75%.

Singular shock waves in interactions [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 2008
n a number of papers it was shown that there are one-dimensional systems such that they contain solutions with, so called, overcompressive singular shock waves besides the usual elementary waves (shock and rarefaction ones as well as contact discontinuities).
