Uncertainty quantification of Abel inversion in multi-energy x-ray radiography with spatially varying noise [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
Abel inversion is a classical technique for reconstructing the volumetric density of axisymmetric objects from line-integral projections in x-ray radiography.

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Design of ultrabright 270 keV DC photoelectron gun for ultrafast electron diffraction

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Compact DC photoelectron guns of high-voltage are highly desired to output ultrabright and ultrashort electron pulses for accessing irreversible processes by using the ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) technique.

Biodamage via shock waves initiated by irradiation with ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Radiation damage following the ionising radiation of tissue has different scenarios and mechanisms depending on the projectiles or radiation modality. We investigate the radiation damage effects due to shock waves produced by ions.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Shockwaves in Supernovae: New Implications on the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate shock wave effects upon the diffuse supernova neutrino background using dynamic profiles taken from hydrodynamical simulations and calculating the neutrino evolution in three flavors with the S-matrix formalism. We show that the shock wave

Mechanically Spatio‐Chimeric Fibrin Assembly Enables Vascular‐Integrated Muscle Reconstruction for Volumetric Muscle Loss Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
SPARC (spatio‐chimeric, plasma‐based, anisotropic, and shear‐responsive construct) that integrates myogenic and vascular microenvironments within a single construct. The dual‐modulus matrix directs aligned myotube formation and endothelial network development, enabling a vascularized muscle implant that seamlessly anastomoses with host tissue and ...

Direct visualization of laser-driven dynamic fragmentation in tin by in situ x-ray diffraction

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes
We present a novel method for investigating laser-driven dynamic fragmentation in tin using in situ X-ray diffraction. Our experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the method for simultaneously identifying the phase and temperature of ...

Thermodynamically consistent phase-field model for pressure-induced multiphase phase transformation of metals under intensive dynamic loading

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Understanding the pressured-induced multiphase phase transformation (MPT) of metals at high strain rate is of great technical and scientific interest. Despite of several decades of studies, the pressured-induced MPT of metals at high strain rate is far ...
