Considerations for shoot-through FLASH proton therapy
Physics in Medicine & Biology, 2021Abstract Purpose. To discuss several pertinent issues related to shoot-through FLASH proton therapy based on an illustrative case. Methods. We argue that with the advent of FLASH proton radiotherapy and due to the issues associated with conventional ...

Shooting Through Clothing in Firearm Suicides
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2010Abstract: There is a longstanding empirical rule that people who commit suicide rarely shoot through their clothing, but rather put it aside to expose the nude skin. Signs of shots through clothing have always been considered suspicious, raising presumptions of the presence of an abettor.

Unusual attempted suicide by shooting through heart
Forensic Science International, 2005Gunshot wounds in the heart are frequent suicidal injuries, especially in men. Most of them are lethal, but some cases of survival due to immediate and proper surgical treatment are reported. However, survival without specific treatment is extremely rare. In our case, a 44-year man attempted suicide by home-made shooting device.

Detection of pneumothorax with lateral shoot-through digital radiography
Clinical Radiology, 1993The aim of this study was to compare the performance of digital frontal radiographs vs digital lateral shoot-through radiographs for the diagnosis of pneumothoraces in supine patients. A total of 146 pairs of radiographs were performed on 32 ventilated patients on the Intensive Care Unit.

Active thermal control by controlled shoot-through of power devices
IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017Active Thermal Control (ATC) consists in driving power switches in a less efficient way when low load conditions are present. The resulting wasted power is used to self-heat the device, reducing amplitude and occurrence of thermal cycles and hence improving the reliability.

An Adjustable Sensorless Shoot-Through Protection for H-Bridges
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018The converters relying on H-bridge configurations exhibit complementary “symmetrical” switching devices for which a triggering dead-time must be considered in order to prevent shoot-through faults. There are two ways in which such dead-time is usually added to the bridges' input signals; namely, from the switching program itself, and by using dedicated

IGBT half-bridge shoot-through characterization for model validation
IAS '96. Conference Record of the 1996 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirty-First IAS Annual Meeting, 2002A circuit is described for making a variety of measurements on half-bridge insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) pairs for validating IGBT models. The circuit incorporates two robust isolated gate drives for the IGBTs. Each IGBT is driven with an eight-cycle square-wave burst with a long dead-time between bursts so that heat-sinking requirements are

Potential to prevent mass shootings through domestic violence firearm restrictions
Criminology & Public Policy, 2019Research SummaryWe investigated the extent to which the 89 mass shooters who committed their acts from 2014 through 2017 were known or suspected to commit domestic violence prior to the shooting, whether they had been engaged in the justice system in a way that could have led to domestic violence firearm restrictions, and why they were either not ...

A shoot-through protection scheme for converters built with SiC JFETs
2009 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2009SiC JFET has been an attractive device for the converter construction due to its superior switching performance and high temperature operation capability. But the shoot-through protection remains a challenge because of the limited knowledge and normally-on characteristics of this device. This paper presents a novel shoot-through protection approach.
