Evaluation of fine fescue taxa for sod production: Tensile strength, harvest timing, and comparisons to conventional cool‐season species

open access: yesCrop, Forage &Turfgrass Management, Volume 12, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract Sod is an important specialty crop used to establish turfgrass and to control soil erosion in new construction and roadsides. Most sod farms in the northern U.S. grow Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), but recent research indicates potential for growing various low‐input grasses, such as fine fescue taxa (Festuca L. spp.).

Wildfire in the Surrounding Landscape Alters Limnological Conditions and Plankton Communities in a Tropical Reservoir

open access: yesInternational Review of Hydrobiology, Volume 111, Issue 2, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Wildfires are becoming increasingly frequent and severe as a consequence of climate change. Their impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and on the atmosphere include the release of gases and ash, as well as enhanced soil susceptibility to erosion and the downstream transport of materials into aquatic systems.

Tracking Invasive Pheretimoid Earthworm Species in New Brunswick, Canada: Impacts on Soil Properties and Other Invasive Earthworms

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 4, December 2026.
Jumping worms, a group of invasive earthworms, are spreading northward in North America, yet their impacts remain poorly understood, especially at their northern range limit. Following the initial detection of jumping worms in New Brunswick, we sampled 46 sites across the province to assess their regional spread and examine possible vectors of ...

CyberShake NZ: Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis in New Zealand Using Physics‐Based Ground‐Motion Simulations

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 4, November 2026.
This study presents the computational components and workflow developed to conduct probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) in New Zealand (NZ) using physics‐based ground‐motion simulations, referred to as “CyberShake NZ.” Semi‐automated procedures generate multiple realizations of kinematic rupture models, create rupture‐specific velocity models ...

Collocated Geotechnical and Geophysical Test Dataset at Three Sites in Napier, New Zealand

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 4, November 2026.
Reliable assessment of liquefaction hazard, particularly in the context of groundwater fluctuations associated with hydroclimatic changes and variability between liquefaction assessment methods, necessitates supplementary data and advanced site characterization methods.
