The Influence of Sea‐Land Breeze on the Circulation and Air‐Sea Thermodynamics of the Mississippi Sound and Bight

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract High spatial and temporal resolution wind forcing is essential to capture the highly variable atmospheric circulation driving ocean currents in shallow waters and across complex coastal features in the Mississippi Sound. In this study, we examine the sensitivity of modeled hydrodynamics to sea‐land breeze (SLB) circulation. Two versions of the

BridgeSAR: Measuring Bridge‐Water Clearance From Space Using SAR Multipath Signatures

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Bridge‐water clearance controls safe vessel passage and reflects local water‐level changes, but direct measurements are unavailable at many bridges. We present BridgeSAR, a geometry‐guided method that estimates clearance from multipath scattering stripes in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) amplitude images.

Sulfur Dioxide Point Sources Remain Important for Daytime Plume‐Scale New Particle Formation in the United States: Case Study for Gary, Indiana During the Summer 2023 AEROMMA Aircraft Campaign

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Plumes from sulfur dioxide (SO2) point sources have been shown to be significant contributors to new particle formation (NPF), but SO2 emissions in the United States (US) have decreased drastically by ∼10× since the early 2000s. We present observations of plume‐scale NPF from SO2 point sources over the industrial hub in Gary, Indiana and ...

Ecosystem Services of Aquatic Spawning and Nesting Habitats Across Semi‐Sahel Alkalinization Stress and Regime of Nakambé River

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The preservation of spawning and nesting aquatic habitats is essential for the survival of species inhabiting Bagré Aquatic Perimeter (BAP). Our approach includes a comprehensive inventory of climate regime impacts on the spatio‐temporal distribution and the integrity of fish spawning habitats for the long‐term durability of BAP aquatic ...

Counting cases, conserving species: addressing highly pathogenic avian influenza in wildlife

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2190-2213, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has become a critical threat to wildlife, shifting from a seasonal epizootic to a persistent, year‐round panzootic with global consequences. Here, we summarise the origin, evolutionary mechanisms, and expanding host range of the current H5N1 virus (clade 2.3.4.4b) and assess its impact on wildlife. Over
