Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering of Short-Circuit Faults in Transmission Lines

2008 10th Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks, 2008
Data mining can play a fundamental role in modern power systems. However, a major problem is to extract useful information from the currently available non-labeled digitized time series. This work proposes a new methodology based on hierarchical clustering for labeling faults that occurred in transmission lines.

Synchronous Generator Short-Circuit and System Faults

1975
Although the majority of the faults occurring in practice on a power system are unsymmetrical between the phases, the symmetrical fault is important because, although rarer, it is more severe. It is, moreover, a simpler condition to analyse, and therefore forms a suitable starting-point for a study of fault conditions.

Remedial operations for open- and short-circuit faults of permanent magnet fault tolerant motor

2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE), 2015
Due to their concentrated windings and modular topology, permanent-magnet fault-tolerant (PMFT) motors inherently offer decoupling phases and fault-tolerant capability. According to open- and short-circuit faults, and in order to keep torque performance invariant during the faulty operation, two relevant fault tolerant strategies are separately ...

A new gate circuit performing fault protections of IGBTs during short circuit transients

Conference Record of the 2002 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 37th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.02CH37344), 2003
Short circuit faults of IGBTs determine overcurrent through the devices subsequently to a turn-on switching or during the on-state condition, leading respectively to hard switching fault (HSF) or fault under load (FUL). Firstly, the state of the art as appearing in literature is recalled and discussed.

Inter-turn short-circuit fault model for magnetically coupled circuits: A general study

2016 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2016
Inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) fault is one of the most typical fault in different types of magnetically coupled circuits such as transformers and rotating or linear electrical machines. This paper presents a general study to approach the ITSC understanding and modeling as long as the circuit can be represented in state-space (SS) equations.

Fault voltage drop and impedance at short-circuit currents in low-voltage circuits

Electrical Engineering, 1941
In the paper are presented new data on (1) arc-voltage drop and current-limiting effects for arc faults in bar-conductor structures, (2) current-limiting effect of insulated-cable arc faults, (3) cable impedance in an iron conduit, and (4) impedance of low-voltage switchgear circuit assemblies, derived from tests at short-circuit currents in circuits ...

TLM modeling of transformer with internal short circuit faults

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2007
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe a technique for modeling transformer internal faults using transmission line modeling (TLM) method. In this technique, a model for simulating a two winding single phase transformer is modified to be suitable for simulating an internal fault in both windings.Design/methodology/approach – TLM technique ...

Calculation of transformer internal faults in short circuit analysis

2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2008
This paper presents a novel method of modeling internal faults in a power transformer. The method leads to a model which is compatible with commercial phasor-based software packages. Consequently; it enables calculation of fault currents in any branch of the network due to a winding fault of a power transformer.
