LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Short fatigue crack growth and retained austenite in steels processed via quenching and partitioning
Previous research has consistently found that introducing metastable retained austenite (RA) as a second phase retards the failure of steel under fatigue. However, the reasons for this benefit are not understood.

The influence of plate thickness on the fatigue crack propagation behavior was studied by using center-notched specimens which were cut from injection-molded plates of short carbon-fiber reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) at two fiber angles relative

Depth measurement of short cracks with an acoustic microscope
The depth of short cracks (70–200 μm surface length) has been measured with an acoustic microscope by utilizing the nondestructive time-of-flight diffraction technique (TOFD). The depth measurements were first carried out in the transparent polymer polystyrene, thus allowing a comparison between the acoustical values and direct optical measurements ...

Translating whole‐genome doubling into precision medicine in cancer
Whole‐genome doubling creates a WGD‐positive tumor state characterized by persistent chromosomal instability, karyotypic diversification, and cellular stress. These same biological pressures drive aggressive tumor evolution while exposing therapeutic vulnerabilities, providing a rationale for WGD‐informed precision medicine. Whole‐genome doubling (WGD)

Eddy current detection of short cracks in sheets
Eddy-current NDI of through-thickness cracks in plates is characterized by a number of competing length scales. In the case of a thin plate, i.e. plate thickness h ≪ skin-depth δ, there are three important length parameters: the crack length 2c, the average coil radius \( \overline r \) (or some other measure of probe size) and the intrinsic length ...

This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

Damage behavior in CFRP laminates containing fiber discontinuities of different sizes
Mechanical properties and damage onset stress in 24 or 25-ply unidirectional CFRP laminates that contain different thicknesses and gap lengths of fiber discontinuity are investigated by tensile testing and analytical model.

Time-resolved acoustic microscopy of short cracks
Time-resolved acoustic microscopy has been used to measure the 3-dimensional profile of short cracks (70-200 mm surface length). In order to establish this technique the depth of short cracks in transparent materials were determined. This allows a comparison between the acoustic and direct optical measurements.
