Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

Origin of shot noise in mesoscopic cavities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We discuss several aspects of shot noise suppression in mesoscopic cavities, focusing on the so-called "quantum to classical" crossover that can be induced by an increase of the width of the constrictions defining the cavity, an increase in the energy of

Robust Electrocaloric Performance Enabled by Highly‐Polar Frustrated Nanodomains in NaNbO3‐Based Ferrodistortive Relaxor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
P4bm framework in NaNbO3‐Ba(Ti, Hf)O3 ferrodistortive relaxor entails short‐range and highly‐polar ferrodistortive orders. The abundant highly‐polar orders facilitate to increase entropy change, and robust octahedral oxygen tilt enables to impede thermal perturbations.

Shot noise in clustering power spectra

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics
We show that the 'shot noise' bias in angular clustering power spectra observed from discrete samples of points is not noise, but rather a known additive contribution that naturally arises due to degenerate pairs of points.

Achieving High ON State Current through Ferroelectric Polarization‐Dependent Interfacial Resistance Switching in Undoped Orthorhombic HfO2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric tunnel junction devices based on epitaxial undoped ferroelectric HfO2 films demonstrate stable switching endurance of over 106 switching cycles, low write voltages of ±3 V, 16 measured resistance states, and neuromorphic capability.

Bright squeezed light generation via nonclassical power stabilization

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Low-power-noise lasers are essential for many high-precision experiments. Shot noise imposes a fundamental limit on the power stability achievable with classical light sources.

Randomly Distributed Passive Seismic Source Reconstruction Record Waveform Rectification Based on Deep Learning

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In passive seismic exploration, the number and location of underground sources are very random, and there may be few passive sources or an uneven spatial distribution.

Unified model of electron beam shot noise and coherent spontaneous emission in the helical wiggler free electron laser

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2003
A numerical algorithm for simulating electron beam shot noise in free electron lasers (FELs) is presented. Shot noise is a source of spontaneous emission that may be amplified in the self-amplified spontaneous emission regime of operation. This regime is
