The droopy shoulder syndrome

Neurology, 1984
We found that patients with thoracic outlet syndrome have: (1) low-set, "droopy" shoulders and long swan neck; (2) pain in the neck, shoulder, chest, arms, or hands; (3) aggravation of symptoms by downward traction and relief by propping up the arms; (4) occurrence in women; (5) absence of abnormal vascular, neurologic, and electrical findings; (6) a ...

Shoulder impingement syndrome

The American Journal of Medicine, 2005
Subacromial impingement syndrome is a common cause of shoulder pain. The purpose of this article is to review the clinical presentation, physical examination findings, and differential diagnosis of impingement syndrome. Using an evidence-based approach, we propose an algorithm for the management of subacromial impingement syndrome including indications

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1991
Impingement syndrome is an ill-defined term for a variety of disorders of the shoulder that manifest as anterior shoulder pain, especially during overhead activities. These disorders each have a common pathologic course that includes rotator cuff tendinitis (RCT), and, if untreated, may proceed to cuff rupture. RCT has at least two distinct etiologies.

Shoulder impingement syndromes

European Journal of Radiology, 1998
Not all shoulder pain conditions are a consequence of rotator cuff injuries secondary to anterior subacromial impingement. Additional causative forms have been identified and classified as posterosuperior glenoid rim, subcoracoid and suprascapular nerve (at spinoglenoid notch) impingement syndromes. We reviewed 206 consecutive magnetic resonance ...

Shoulder impingement syndrome

Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, 1990
A method of shoulder sonography in which lateral and anterior elevation of the arm is used during scanning was demonstrated to be effective in cases of suspected impingement syndrome. The value of the method lies in its ability to demonstrate fluid collection in the subacromial-subdeltoid bursal system, with gradual distention of the bursa and lateral ...

MRI of impingement syndromes of the shoulder

Clinical Radiology, 2009
The diagnosis of shoulder impingement is primarily a clinical one. Imaging has a role in assisting clinicians in developing a treatment strategy by identifying and characterizing the cause of shoulder impingement. In this review, the relevant anatomy, cause/pathomechanics, clinical features, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of the ...

Painful shoulder syndromes

Journal of General Internal Medicine, 1992
Painful shoulder conditions are common primary care problems. Providers should learn the topographical landmarks about the shoulder and understand shoulder mechanics. A careful clinical evaluation will usually provide a likely diagnosis. In unclear cases with marked pain, weakness, and reduced mobility, or with a suspected rotator cuff tear or rupture,

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and the Shoulder

Clinics in Sports Medicine, 1983
Thoracic outlet syndrome may be the cause of symptoms wrongly attributed to shoulder pathology, or it may accompany or result from shoulder injury. If misdiagnosed, it may leave the physician wondering why relevant shoulder therapy fails to result in a return to full potential, but if correctly diagnosed, it can be cured or ameliorated.
