Microcirculatory oxygenation and shunting in sepsis and shock.

Critical Care Medicine, 1999
OBJECTIVE To review optical spectroscopic techniques for assessment of the determinants of tissue oxygenation and to evaluate the notion that the disturbances in oxygen pathways in sepsis can be accounted for by enhanced functional shunting of parts of ...

Performance analysis of shunt, short shunt and long shunt self excited induction generator: Analysis of shunt, short shunt and long shunt SEIG

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2012
This paper presents a simple method for the steady state analysis of a self excited induction generator (SEIG) operating in shunt, short shunt and long shunt configurations. The method is based on solution of nonlinear equations obtained through impedance model of steady state equivalent circuit of a single phase SEIG.

Endoscopy versus microsurgical cyst excision and shunting for treating intracranial arachnoid cysts.

Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2011
OBJECT Endoscopic surgery is routinely used to treat intracranial arachnoid cysts. However, the indications and results with respect to the different cyst locations, compared with those of microsurgical fenestration and cyst shunting, deserve to be ...

On shunting inhibition

Biological Cybernetics, 1986
The interaction between excitation and inhibition is analyzed for nerve cylinders when reversal potentials for synaptic action are included. Both impulsive and sustained conductance changes are employed to model synaptic action. Exact results, in terms of Green's functions are obtained for the solutions of the cable equation with reversal potentials ...

Ventriculosinus shunt

Neurosurgical Review, 2010
Hydrocephalus can be managed successfully with cerebrospinal fluid shunting to extracranial compartments, most commonly the peritoneum. However, current shunt systems are not ideal with high revision rates on long-term follow-up. Draining the cerebrospinal fluid from the cerebral ventricles to the cerebral venous sinuses could mimic the physiological ...

A mathematical model of diffusional shunting of oxygen from arteries to veins in the kidney.

AJP - Renal Physiology, 2011
To understand how arterial-to-venous (AV) oxygen shunting influences kidney oxygenation, a mathematical model of oxygen transport in the renal cortex was created.

The LeVeen Shunt

Annual Review of Medicine, 1985
Ascites is the end result when the rate of conversion of plasma to peritoneal fluid exceeds the rate of reabsorption from the peritoneal cavity. Physiologic therapy demands the return of this fluid to the plasma volume from whence it arose. The peritoneovenous shunt was devised to accomplish this.

Hypoxia-induced intrapulmonary arteriovenous shunting at rest in healthy humans.

Journal of applied physiology, 2010
Intrapulmonary arteriovenous (IPAV) shunting has been shown to occur at rest in some subjects breathing a hypoxic gas mixture [fraction of inspired oxygen (FI(O(2))) = 0.12] for brief periods of time.

The Leftover Shunts - Ventriculosubgaleal, and Ventriculocholecystal Shunts

Neurology India, 2021
Abstract The two shunts that are performed much less and are included here for completeness are the ventriculosubgaleal shunt and the ventriculocholecystal shunt. The ventriculosubgaleal shunt is an established treatment of hydrocephalus following germinal matrix hemorrhage in low-birth-weight neonates.

Intravitreal bevacizumab and aqueous shunting surgery for neovascular glaucoma: safety and efficacy.

Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology-journal Canadien D Ophtalmologie, 2009
OBJECTIVE To study the safety and efficacy of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab followed by aqueous shunting tube surgery for the management of neovascular glaucoma (NVG).
