Reduced Handgrip Strength in Congenital Heart Disease With Regard to the Shunt Procedure in Infancy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2018
Objective: In many patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) arterial blood flow to the arms is inhibited due to shunt surgery in infancy. This study investigates the handgrip strength of patients with CHD in regard to previous shunt procedures ...

Prospective model of the hybrid shunting diesel locomotive [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2020
In the article, the studies are performed which confirm dependence of fuel consumption of the shunting locomotive on the train driving mode. Using a hybrid power plant in the shunting diesel locomotive is proposed, which can help significantly reduce ...

Patent ductus arteriosus shunting direction and diameter predict inpatient outcomes in newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
ObjectiveTo evaluate whether the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) can serve as a predictive factor for inpatient outcomes in congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) patients.MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted on 59 CDH patients at the Capital ...

A comparison of lumboperitoneal and ventriculoperitoneal shunting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension: an analysis of economic impact and complications using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample.

open access: yesNeurosurgical Focus, 2014
OBJECT Complications following lumboperitoneal (LP) shunting have been reported in 18% to 85% of cases. The need for multiple revision surgeries, development of iatrogenic Chiari malformation, and frequent wound complications have prompted many to ...

Transverse Sinus Stenting for Pseudotumor Cerebri: A Cost Comparison with CSF Shunting

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Neuroradiology, 2014
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Transverse sinus venous stent placement has been shown to lower intracranial pressure in patients with venogenic pseudotumor cerebri and to reverse, or at least stabilize, its symptoms and signs.

Routine or selective carotid artery shunting for carotid endarterectomy (and different methods of monitoring in selective shunting).

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2014
BACKGROUND Temporary interruption of cerebral blood flow during carotid endarterectomy can be avoided by using a shunt across the clamped section of the carotid artery. This may improve outcome. This is an update of a Cochrane review originally published

Fabrication of a Stable, Low‐Cost, Patient‐Specific, Brain Phantom with Ventricles for Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific brain phantoms can replace animal trials, aid presurgical training, and enable in silico disease research on cerebrospinal fluid and ventricles. This study presents a method to create ventricular brain phantoms from three‐dimensional magnetic resonance images brain scans, resulting in durable, tunable, reproducible models that mimic ...

Ferrocene Derivatives Enable Ultrasensitive Perovskite Photodetectors with Enhanced Reverse Bias Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Novel ferrocene derivatives (e.g., FcPhc2) are used as an ultrathin layer hole‐blocking layer, reducing hole injection from the Ag contact. This results in an ultralow noise spectral density of 1.2 × 10−14 A Hz−1/2, and a high specific detectivity of 8.1 × 1012 Jones at −0.5 V.
