Sulfur Hosts against the Shuttle Effect

Small Methods, 2018
AbstractLithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are considered as a substitute for conventional batteries as they are the most promising next‐generation energy‐storage system due to their high energy densities. However, their short cycling life, limited sulfur loading, severe polysulfide shuttling, and low sulfur utilization critically impede grid‐level ...

Diodelike effect in nanoelectromechanical shuttle devices

Physical Review B, 2008
We have analyzed the effect of bias-voltage polarities on the shuttle instability in an asymmetrically nanoelectromechanical single-electron transistor (NEM-SET) using the Wigner phase space approach. The electric-field-induced shift in oscillation equilibrium position together with the asymmetrical tunneling rate leads to the symmetry breaking of ...

Surfactant adsorption rather than “shuttle effect”?

Chemical Engineering Science, 2005
Abstract In the absence of chemical reaction, mass transfer enhancement by suspended particles (mostly activated carbon) at the gas/liquid interface has been frequently reported and is usually explained by a “shuttle mechanism” exerted by particles with a high adsorption capacity for the transfer component.

Spin Valve Effect in a Magnetic Nanoelectromechanical Shuttle

Physical Review Letters, 2008
We study spin-dependent shuttle phenomena in a nanoelectromechanical single electron transistor (NEM-SET) with magnetic leads by considering the coupling between the transport of spin-polarized electrons and mechanical oscillations of the nanometer quantum dot. It is shown that there are two different bias-voltage thresholds for the shuttle instability

Distinct Nanostructures from a Molecular Shuttle: Effects of Shuttling Movement on Nanostructural Morphologies

Advanced Functional Materials, 2008
AbstractA solvent driven molecular shuttle that contains a TCBD chromophore and in which the macrocycle can be positioned close to or far from the TCBD unit with a change of solvent is prepared. Several distinct nanostructures are obtained by control of the shuttling movement of the macrocycle: i) in a mixed solvent of CHCl3/n‐C6H14 (1/1, v/v), the ...

Size Effect for Inhibiting Polysulfides Shuttle in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

Small, 2023
AbstractIt is undeniable that the dissolution of polysulfides is beneficial in speeding up the conversion rate of sulfur in electrochemical reactions. But it also brings the bothersome “shuttle effect”. Therefore, if polysulfides can be retained on the cathode side, the efficient utilization of the polysulfides can be guaranteed to achieve the ...

Polyubiquitin effects on phase transitions of shuttle protein UBQLN2

The FASEB Journal, 2022
ALS‐linked ubiquitin‐binding shuttle protein UBQLN2 mediates crosstalk between proteasomal degradation and autophagy pathways, which are thought to be controlled by interactions involving K48‐linked and K63‐linked polyubiquitin chains, respectively. We previously showed that UBQLN2 is recruited to stress granules in cells and undergoes liquid‐liquid ...

The effect of temperature on shuttle glow

Nature, 1986
The glow on ram surfaces of the Space Shuttle has been reported from a series of photographic observations made during several orbiter missions. These measurements have shown that the spectrum of the glow is a continuum, has a spectral peak at 680 nm, and the brightness decreases with altitude.

Effects of Delta Wing Separation on Shuttle Dynamics

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1973
The unsteady aerodynamics of a candidate delta-wing shuttle orbiter have been investigated. Three potentially dangerous flow separation phenomena involving the delta wing have been identified, each of which could seriously compromise the flight dynamics.

Dynamic Effects from the Space Shuttle Liftoff

Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space V, 1996
This paper presents a study of the dynamic effects of the Space Shuttle launches on the ground support structures at Launch Pad 39A at the NASA-Kennedy Space Center. Pressure and structural acceleration data recently recorded at the Kennedy Space Center in support of a 1990-1992 study were reviewed and incorporated with additional recordings of similar
