SI Engine Controls and Mean Value Engine Modelling
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1991<div class="htmlview paragraph">Many existing classical electronic control systems (speed-throttle, speed-density, MAF (mass air flow)) are based on quasistatic engine models and static measured engine maps. They are thus time consuming to adapt to new engine types, are sensitive to dynamic sensor errors and in general have undesirable dynamic ...

The Application of Virtual Engine in a PSA 1.41 SI Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2010<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Nowadays, due to the high competitiveness in the automotive market, the car manufacturers and the engine developers are concentrating as many efforts as possible in order to diminish the lead-time to production and to promote cost reductions of their engine developments.</div ...

Nonlinear observer design for turbocharger in a SI engine
2013 American Control Conference, 2013Estimation of major turbocharger variables is essential for proper control and monitoring of a turbocharged engine. This work presents a novel algorithm to estimate turbocharger rotator speed, air temperature downstream a compressor and flow rate over the compressor using mean value models of engine subsystems.

The Effects of Crevices on the Engine-Out Hydrocarbon Emissions in SI Engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994<div class="htmlview paragraph">To understand the effects of crevices on the engine-out hydrocarbon emissions, a series of engine experiments was carried out with different piston crevice volumes and with simulated head gasket crevices. The engine-out HC level was found to be modestly sensitive to the piston crevice size in both the warmed-up and
