Abstract The Graham Bank is a broad and relatively shallow relief located off the SW coast of Sicily. This area hosts, among other submarine edifices, the ephemeral Ferdinandea Island, created in 1831 by an explosive eruption - the only well-documented event occurred in the study area - and rapidly dismantled by erosional processes.

Abstract The ancient geography of the Mediterranean Basin was profoundly changed by the increase in sea level following the Last Glacial Maximum. This global event has led to the retreat of the coastlines, especially in lowland areas and shallow shelves, such as the Sicilian Channel. The NW sector of this shelf, known as Adventure Plateau, is studded

Observation of internal waves and seismic waves in the Sicilian Channel
Lettere Al Nuovo Cimento Series 2, 1985Internal waves in the Sicilian Channel are observed in synthetic aperture radar images gathered by the Seasat satellite. A correlation is here presented between these waves and data collected by a seismograph recently installed on the Island of Pantelleria, which show intense seismic activity followed by anomalous signals.

Influence Of The Surface Circulation On The Spawning Strategy Of The Sicilian Channel Anchovy
2000No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Several interdisciplinary surveys carried out in the Sicily Channel within the European Union projects MED96-052 and MED98-070 have evidenced the coupling between the hydrography and the spawning strategy of the Sicilian channel anchovy.

Abstract78 species of decapod and stomatopod crustaceans were collected during a two-year survey on the trawlable bottoms of the Sicilian Channel. Bathymetric range, size range, size of the smallest ovigerous females and their period of occurrence are given. Some brief remarks on Parasquilla ferussaci, Pontophilus norvegicus and Maja goltziana are made.

The deep water red shrimp Aristaeomorpha foliacea is an important commercial species for the trawl fisheries in the Sicilian Channel (Central Mediterranean Sea; FAO statistical area 37.5). An assessment program was recently implemented by ITPP-CNR. Two years of seasonal research trawl surveys were carried out on the Italian side of the Sicilian Channel.

A few kilometres off the SW coast of Sicily lie the shallow banks of Graham, Terrible and Nerita. These morphological reliefs are affected by two lithospheric scale, N–S trending tectonic lineaments known as Capo Granitola to the west and Sciacca to the east.

INTRODUCTIONThe genus Illex is likely to constitute a large portion of the annual world ommastrephid squid catches (Roper et al, 1984), even though specific official statistics are difficult to obtain. The broad-tail short-fin squid Illex coindetii is a widespread species ranging from the western to the eastern Atlantic (Roper et al., 1984) and east ...
