Ecol EvolA generalist herbivore, the gopher tortoise, becomes more frugivorous intra‐annually, following seasonal precipitation. As it increasingly becomes frugivorous, it disperses seeds exhibiting very different dispersal syndromes. At high levels of frugivory, this species behaves as a classical frugivore with regard to the types of seeds it disperses.
