Precipitation Drives Frugivory in a Subtropical Generalist Herbivore, the Gopher Tortoise, and Alters Its Functional Role as a Seed Disperser

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
A generalist herbivore, the gopher tortoise, becomes more frugivorous intra‐annually, following seasonal precipitation. As it increasingly becomes frugivorous, it disperses seeds exhibiting very different dispersal syndromes. At high levels of frugivory, this species behaves as a classical frugivore with regard to the types of seeds it disperses.

Antiproliferative effect of extracts of Sida rhombifolia L. (Malvaceae) on the Allium cepa cell cycle

open access: yesBIOCELL, 2014
Field collected roots of four populations of Sida rhombifolia were used for preparing aqueous decoctions at two concentrations: 4g/L; and 16g/L. Afterwards, we used three groups of six onion (Allium cepa) bulbs for testing each population. Slides were made with all bulbs through the smashing technique. Cells in all phases of the cell cycle of A.

Environmental factors determining weed species distribution in organic manure and inorganic fertiliser smallholder maize (Zea mays L.) production

open access: yesWeed Research, Volume 64, Issue 5, Page 365-375, October 2024.
Abstract Weeds are a major concern in crop production, and their environmental plasticity hinders successful control. A phytosociological study assessed weed distribution patterns in smallholder maize (Zea mays L.) production under different climatic and soil factors in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 cropping seasons.
