TETING SIGMA CONVERGENCE ACROSS NEW EU MEMBERS [PDF]
Even though the issue of convergence between the member states of European Union is an extremely debated subject nowadays, the existing disparities continue to persist and even accentuate. Furthermore the economists and researchers in the field are interested to analyze whether the rich economies will continue to develop and at what speed on one side ...

On infinite matrices and lacunary σ-convergence
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2011A lacunary sequence is an increasing sequence \(\theta = (k_r)\) of non-negative integers where \(k_0=0\) with \(k_r-k_{r-1} \to \infty\) as \(r\to \infty\). Let \(\sigma\) be a one-to-one mapping from the set of natural numbers into itself. A continuous linear functional \(\phi\) on \(\ell _{\infty}\) is said to be an invariant mean or a \(\sigma ...

Sigma Convergence Versus Beta Convergence: Evidence from County-level Data [PDF]
This note outlines: 1) Why sigma-convergence may not accompany beta-convergence; 2) Cites evidence of beta-convergence in the U.S.; 3) Demonstrates that sigma-convergence does not hold across the U.S. or within most U.S. states; and 4) Demonstrates the robustness of this finding to increases in mean income.

The wedge and sigma convergence among U.S. states
Atlantic Economic Journal, 1996The paper attempts to empirically quantify the factors underlying sigma convergence among the contiguous states of the U.S. Using annual state data the study finds a significant effect of the wedge in explaining the variation in state per capita productivity.
