Primary Signet-Ring Carcinoma (Linitus Plastica) of the Colorectum presenting as Subacute Intestinal Obstruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Primary Signet-ring cell carcinoma (Linitus Plastica) of the colon and rectum is a rare form of adenocarcinoma of the large intestine and has been reported to have an extremely poor prognosis. We report a case of Primary Signet-ring cell carcinoma of the

Chronic Kidney Disease Increases Risk of Delayed Post‐Polypectomy Bleeding: A Large‐Scale Propensity Score‐Matched Analysis

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The association between delayed post‐polypectomy bleeding and chronic kidney disease remains unclear. Objective This study investigated whether patients with chronic kidney disease are at an increased risk of delayed post‐polypectomy bleeding.

IBUS‐SAS Is a Highly Accurate Intestinal Ultrasound Score for Predicting Endoscopic Disease Activity in Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The international bowel ultrasound group‐segmental activity score (IBUS‐SAS) is a validated tool with high interobserver agreement for accurately detecting disease activity in Crohn's disease (CD). Here, we addressed whether the IBUS‐SAS is also suitable to assess disease activity in ulcerative colitis (UC). Methods The IBUS‐SAS and

AML‐Net: Attention‐based multi‐scale lightweight model for brain tumour segmentation in internet of medical things

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Brain tumour segmentation employing MRI images is important for disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment planning. Till now, many encoder‐decoder architectures have been developed for this purpose, with U‐Net being the most extensively utilised. However, these architectures require a lot of parameters to train and have a semantic gap. Some

Is Deuterium Sequestering by Reactive Carbon Atoms an Important Mechanism to Reduce Deuterium Content in Biological Water?

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, EarlyView.
Deuterium, a heavy isotope of hydrogen, is universal in nature, but it disrupts the mitochondrial ATPase pumps. One mechanism that biological organisms may use to reduce deuterium levels in the mitochondria is to sequester deuterium bound to carbon atoms in a small set of organic molecules that have a unique configuration to support such trapping ...

Enterocolitis associated with glofitamab—First report and clinicopathological findings in three cases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Summary Glofitamab is a CD3‐CD20 bispecific antibody used to treat B‐cell non‐Hodgkin lymphoma. We describe three cases of enterocolitis occurring with glofitamab at a single institution. Similarities between cases include onset post cycle 4–5, moderately elevated faecal calprotectin, abnormal bowel avidity on positron emission tomography scan (2/3 ...

A Case of Redundant Sigmoid Colon and Sigmoid Volvulus

open access: yesCureus
The torsion of a dilated sigmoid colon around its own mesenteric axis is the cause of sigmoid volvulus, which frequently results in constipation and intestinal obstruction. The clinical presentation of sigmoid volvulus can be observed as nausea, constipation, abdominal distension, and abdominal pain. It is also reported to be insidious.

Polo‐Like Kinase 1 Expression in Colorectal Cancer: Association With RAS Mutations

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
PLK1 expression may serve as a biomarker for adjuvant chemotherapy resistance in CRC. This study focused on the relationship between PLK1 expression and RAS mutation, which has been reported to be highly sensitive to PLK1 inhibitors. RAS mutation with high PLK1 expression predicts poorer survival in adjuvant‐treated CRC patients.
