Signal Detection

Drug Safety, 2007
A primary aim in pharmacovigilance is the timely detection of either new adverse drug reactions (ADRs) or a relevant change of the frequency of ADRs that are already known to be associated with the drugs involved, i.e. signal detection. Adequate signal detection solely based on the human intellect (case-by-case analysis or qualitative signal detection)

Signal Detection in the Rat

Science, 1963
An auditory detection experiment was performed with rats as subjects, and the data were analyzed with a signal detection model. Rats were run at fixed sound pressure levels, and their responses were partitioned so that operating characteristics could be constructed. Measures of detectability, (d e ) ½

Quantization for Sequential Signal Detection

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1977
The quantization of the observed data for sequential signal detection is studied. The criteria used are the minimizations of the average sample number under the hypothesis, the average sample number under the alternative, and the maximum average sample number.

Principles of Signal Detection in Pharmacovigilance

Drug Safety, 1997
Adverse drug effects are manifold and heterogenous. Many situations may hamper the signalling (i.e. the detection of early warning signs) of adverse effects and new signals often differ from previous experiences. Signals have qualitative and quantitative aspects. Different categories of adverse effects need different methods for detection.

On the stability of signal detection

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1983
The probabilities of false alarm and false dismissal for sure signals embedded in additive noise when the noise is contaminated Gaussian are studied.

Optimum Quantization for Signal Detection

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1977
Optimum quantization of data, primarily for signal detection applications, is considered. It is shown that two useful detection criteria lead to quantization which gives the minimum mean-squared error between the quantized output and the locally optimum nonlinear transform for each data sample.

On Cyclostationarity-Based Signal Detection

2018 26th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO), 2018
A new cyclostationarity-based signal detector is proposed. It is based on (conjugate) cyclic autocorrelation measurements at pairs of cycle frequencies and lags for which the signal-of-interest exhibits cyclostationarity while the disturbance does not. No assumption is made on the noise distribution and/or its stationarity.

On the Nature of Streaks in Signal Detection

Cognitive Psychology, 1995
Human performance in the domain of signal detection is analyzed with respect to the formation of streaks. Streakiness was found to be a general property of auditory and visual discrimination in the sense that correct and incorrect responses have a positive sequential dependency. Success tends to follow success and failure tends to follow failure. Level

Auditory signal detection in schizophrenics

Psychopharmacologia, 1972
Differences in auditory signal detection between paranoid and nonparanoid schizophrenic patients were examined under six signal-to-noise conditions for those off and on different dosages of phenothiazine medication. Their performance was compared with normals.
