Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A representation theory for morphological image and signal processing [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1989
This paper develops theoretical results concerning the operations of mathematical morphology. The aim of this paper is a unifying theory for many systems encountered in or related to morphological image and signal processing. From a theoretical viewpoint, this paper unifies the representation of previously totally unrelated systems and provides a ...

Multistatic Modular Real‐Time MIMO‐SONAR Systems

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
Mulitstatic SONAR networks (MSNs) have the potential to improve the imaging quality of underwater areas due to the increased degree of freedom. The additional signal processing required for such a network of distributed SONAR nodes compared to monostatic

Image Preprocessing for Outdoor Luminescence Inspection of Large Photovoltaic Parks

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Electroluminescence (EL) measurements allow one to detect damages and/or defective parts in photovoltaic systems. In principle, it seems possible to predict the complete current/voltage curve from such pictures even automatically. However, such a precise

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Behavior-Aware Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction in Ego-Centric Camera Views with Spatio-Temporal Ego-Motion Estimation

open access: yesMachine Learning and Knowledge Extraction, 2023
With the ongoing development of automated driving systems, the crucial task of predicting pedestrian behavior is attracting growing attention. The prediction of future pedestrian trajectories from the ego-vehicle camera perspective is particularly ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Wide-Sense Stationarity in Generalized Graph Signal Processing

open access: yes, 2022
We consider statistical graph signal processing (GSP) in a generalized framework where each vertex of a graph is associated with an element from a Hilbert space.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Magnetoneurograhy of an Electrically Stimulated Arm Nerve

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
For further development and optimization of novel uncooled magnetoelectric (ME) sensors, a better understanding of spectral power distribution and signal strength of nerve signals is of high interest. For obtaining information on these signal properties,
