Harnessing Data-mining Algorithms to Model and Evaluate Factors Influencing Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission Variations in a Mining Industry

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Health Engineering
Aim: The aim of this study was to gauge the condition of otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) in workers, followed by modeling and estimating the weight of factors affecting changes in their emissions. Methods: The present study comprises two main phases. In the

Signal-to-noise Ratio measurements for Incilius luetkenii calls

open access: yes, 2016
Column A shows five transcripts described in the paper (1-5). Column B shows the number of speakers (1, 5, or 10 simulated toads). Column C shows distance between the loudspeakers and the microphone, in meters.

Signal-to-noise ratio analysis of single-pixel detection multiplexing under photon-noise. Cases of Hadamard and Cosine positive modulation

open access: yes, 2022
In typical single-pixel detection multiplexing, an unknown object is sequentially illuminated with intensity patterns: the total signal is summed into a single-pixel detector and is then demultiplexed to retrieve the object. Because of measurement noise,

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Noise-Power Estimation Based on Ratio of Stationary Noise to Input Signal for Noise Reduction

open access: yes, 2014
This paper proposes a method for estimating noise-power spectrum and reducing stationary noise components in noisy speech signal. Noise reduction generally suppresses the stationary noise by applying a multiplicative gain calculated from the estimated ...

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Measuring the signal-to-noise ratio of a neuron [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2015
SignificanceNeurons represent both signal and noise in binary electrical discharges termed action potentials. Hence, the standard signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) definition of signal amplitude squared and divided by the noise variance does not apply. We show that the SNR estimates a ratio of expected prediction errors.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...
